With their fifth win in the last six games last night (and tenth in their past 12), the 10th-place Warriors moved within half a game of the #9 Lakers and within three games of the top-six spots in the West in the NBA playoff bracket.

Toronto is four games back of #10 Atlanta in the East.

Raptors’ Three-Game Win Streak Snapped

The re-tooled Raptors – who traded Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, and Dennis Schroder ahead of the deadline – put together a season-high three-game win streak after the All-Star break, winning beating Brooklyn (121-93 home), Atlanta (123-121 away), and Indiana (130-122).

But Toronto couldn’t keep the momentum going against Dallas on Wednesday, falling 136-125 to Luka Doncic and company.

During the recent win streak, three different players led the Raps in scoring, and none of them were named Scottie Barnes (Toronto’s lone All-Star).

Immanuel Quickley continues to show improvement since coming over from the Knicks in the Anunoby deal. The Kentucky product has scored at least 24 points in three of his past four and is averaging 17.6 PPG in a Raptor uniform.

But as the Dallas score suggests, it’s defense that’s been the main problem for Toronto this season. The team sits an abysmal 25th in D-Rating (117.4).

Warriors Stifle Shorthanded Knicks

Golden State made it two-for-two on its current four-game road trip with a 110-99 win at the Knicks last night, one of the best defensive performances of the season from Steve Kerr’s team. The Warriors held New York to just 36.8% shooting from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc.

Steph Curry led the attack with 31 points on 8-of-18 shooting from three while rising star Jonathan Kuminga added 25 on 12-of-19 shooting from the field.

Golden State has climbed to 18th in D-Rating after sitting in the bottom-third of the league for most of the season. Their +1.8 Net Rating is tied for 12th while their +2.1 point differential is seventh-best in the West.

Warriors vs Raptors Prediction

With a 12-point lead after the first quarter, Golden State was in full control of last night’s game, allowing Kerr to distribute minutes. No one on Golden State played more than 32 minutes, while 11 different players logged at least nine. In sum, the Warriors should be fairly rested for this second leg of their back-to-backs, all things considered.

With last night’s 11-point win (as 4.5-point favorites), Golden State has now covered the spread in 14 straight victories (and 12 of 15 games, overall). The Raptors may be figuring out how to best use the pieces they have, post-deadline, but the Warriors are starting to play like the NBA title contender they were expected to be at the start of the season.

GSW vs TOR pick: Warriors -3 (-110)
