Cowboys vs Chargers History
Being in opposite conferences there is little recent history between these teams. The Cowboys won the last meeting, 20-17 in LA, but it came in 2021. The Chargers won the three previous games but those were in 2017, 2013 and 2009.
Who Are the Cowboys?
Dallas ranks right up near the top of the league in PPG at eighth, averaging 26.8. This despite Dak Prescott only throwing for 1,061 yards and five touchdowns in five games. Dak’s 6.6 yards per attempt is actually way down in 25th, near the bottom of most starting and even backup QBs who have played significant time this season.
Dallas has also been strong defensively only giving up 16.6 PPG to rank seventh.
But let’s look at their results a little closer. Dallas is 3-0 versus the Giants, Jets and Patriots. Three teams who are a combined 4-11 SU and 4-11 ATS.
They also have a loss to the 1-4 Cardinals, giving Arizona their only win. And then a blowout loss at the hands of the 49ers on Sunday Night Football losing 42-10.
So who are they? So far they are mostly a team that has beat up on bad opponents and one that has been boat-raced against the one good team they played, albeit maybe best team in the league.
.@Realrclark25 believes there's a lot on the line for the Cowboys:
"This game changes the trajectory of the organization this year and beyond. If Justin Herbert does outplay Dak Prescott … I think it's the beginning of the end for Dak Prescott as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys." pic.twitter.com/3c1SfKja2X

Chargers Come In Fresh Off Bye for MNF
The Chargers’ season didn’t get off to the best of starts after dropping 36-34 and 27-24 results to the Dolphins and Titans. But things turned around in Week 3 with a 28-24 win over the Vikings and in Week 4 they evened their record at 2-2 beating the Raiders 24-17.
Having been on a bye in Week 5 and not playing until Monday Night Football will give them plenty of time to come in rested. It may also give RB Austin Ekeler who has been on the Cowboys vs Chargers injury report the time needed to recover to play. Ekeler has been out since Week 1 but has practiced in full late in the week. In Week 1 Ekeler had 117 yards on the ground to go with one rushing touchdown, while adding 47 yards receiving and would be a huge addition should he return.

The Chargers story has been one of a team that can score with the best of them, averaging 27.5 PPG (7th), with Justin Herbert throwing seven touchdowns compared to just one interception. His yards per pass of 7.6 ranks sixth among starting QBs.
But their defense hasn’t proved capable of stopping anyone giving up 26 PPG (24th). Through the air, LA is dead-last, being shredded for almost 300 yards per game (299.8).
Cowboys vs Chargers Prediction
As bad as the Chargers have been against the pass, this will either be a game where it doesn’t matter, or a game where Dallas, like others, takes full advantage.
Prescott has less passing yards than both Jordan Love and Desmond Ridder which is not the type of numbers a Cowboys franchise QB should have. Brandin Cooks hasn’t looked himself and Tony Pollard was limited in practice this week with a shoulder injury.
Even in shutting down Christian McCaffrey to just 51 rushing yards last week, the 49ers still put up 170 yards on the ground and Brock Purdy threw for four TDs. And without the injured Trevon Diggs, they could struggle to contain Keenan Allen who is averaging 108.5 yards per game receiving, which could make him a good pick in the Cowboys vs Chargers props.
I have my concerns about a weak Chargers defense. I just have more concerns about the Cowboys. Back Los Angeles as home dogs in your Cowboys vs Chargers picks.
