Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev are making a habit of getting to the French Open semifinals. Zverev will be playing in the final four of men’s singles play at Roland Garros for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, Ruud is back in the semis for the second consecutive tournament. Read on for an analysis of Casper Ruud vs Alexander Zverev.
Ruud got to the final last year, only to be beaten in straight sets by Rafael Nadal. It was Nadal who beat Zverev in the semifinals. The German player is still seeking to play in his first final at Roland Garros.
Zverev has beaten Ruud twice in three prior meetings. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why the German is set as the slight -110 favorite to win this match in the Ruud vs Zverev odds.

Ruud Sends Rune Packing Again
For the second year in a row, Ruud found himself facing Denmark’s Holger Rune in the French Open quarterfinals. And for the second successive tournament, it was the Dane who was going home.
Fourth-seeded Ruud won 6-1, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over #6 seed Rune. Ruud is now 5-1 against Rune in head to head meetings.

Ruud served five aces, compared to one for Rune. He won 72% of his first service points and five of 13 break points. Rune was 1-for-7 on service breaks.
Rune looked to be out of gas following his five-set win over Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round.
Zverev Back Where It Ended Last Year
It was during his 2022 French Open semifinal against Rafael Nadal that Zverev suffered a horrific season-ending ankle injury. It resulted in what Zverev describes as the most difficult year of his life.
Ruud vs Zverev Match History
Year | Tournament | Surface | Score | Winner |
---|---|---|---|---|
2022 | ATP Miami (QF) | Outdoor Hard | 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 | Ruud |
2021 | ATP Paris (QF) | Indoor Hard | 7-5, 6-4 | Zverev |
2021 | ATP Cincinnati (QF) | Outdoor Hard | 6-1, 6-3 | Zverev |
The #22 seed bounced unseeded Cinderella story Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentine 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to back to the semifinals at Roland Garros.
World #49 Etcheverry hadn’t dropped a set at Roland Garros coming into this match. But after they split the first two sets, Zverev roared back from 0-2 down to win five straight games and claim the third set.
During that set, the German player hit 12 winners and won 86% (12-of-14) net points.
