The Halos send Patrick Sandoval to the mound for the rubber match, while the Guardians hand the ball to Tanner Bibee.

Los Angeles vs Cleveland Probable Pitchers
Aside from Shohei Ohtani, Sandoval has been the Angels’ most consistent starter in 2023. The 26-year-old is 3-1 with a 3.41 ERA in seven outings, striking out 26 in 37 frames while giving up 15 walks. Not eye-popping numbers, but certainly solid.

Last time out, Sandoval surrendered four earned runs to the Astros. However, he battled and managed to last 6.1 frames, walking none in the process. In four career appearances against Cleveland, he owns a 3.20 ERA.
Sandoval vs Bibee Stats
3-1 | Record | 1-1 |
3.41 | ERA | 4.30 |
37 | Innings Pitched | 14.2 |
26 | Strikeouts | 15 |
15 | Walks | 4 |
The Guardians called up Bibee to make his MLB debut in late April and he did more than enough to stay, tossing 5.2 innings of one-run baseball while striking out eight. Since then, the rookie has still pitched relatively well, compiling a 4.30 ERA overall.
That being said, his most recent start was probably his roughest yet, allowing four earned to the Tigers in just 3.2 innings of work. Bibee took the loss, with his record now sitting at 1-1. He’s never faced the Angels.
Angels Off to Respectable Start?
Could Los Angeles finally make the playoffs? Yes, it’s early, but this team is second in the AL West at the moment with a 21-18 record. Perhaps they could finally live up to expectations with two of the game’s brightest superstars in Mike Trout and Ohtani.

Offensively, the Angels are scoring 5.1 runs per game and hitting .260 as a team. They’ve also slugged 51 home runs. LA ranks top-10 in all three categories. Trout and Ohtani are both hitting just under .300 and have combined for 16 long balls already. Also, Hunter Renfroe is proving his worth with a team-best 10 bombs.
Cleveland Isn’t Living up to Expectations
As I said, it’s so early in the campaign. That’s why no Guardians fan will be too worried about their squad’s 17-21 record. However, you can’t help but be a tad concerned. Cleveland is atrocious offensively, ranking dead last in numerous important categories.
The only reason the Guardians aren’t totally hopeless is their pitching staff, which owns a 3.73 ERA. Shane Beiber is enjoying a solid year and continues to be a contender in the AL Cy Young odds, while Cal Quantrill is also throwing the ball well.

Angels vs Guardians Prediction
There’s one statistic I’m looking at here. Sandoval has a 6.00 ERA in two day starts this season. That’s enough reason for me to ride the Guardians.
Pick: Guardians moneyline +102.
