The A’s send Kyle Muller to the mound here, while the Yanks counter with Jhony Brito.

Oakland vs New York Probable Pitchers
The A’s are downright brutal and their pitching staff is a big reason for it. That includes Wednesday’s starter, with Muller struggling immensely thus far. The 25-year-old is 1-2 in seven starts with a 6.62 ERA, striking out 21 in 34 innings while giving up 17 walks.
Last time out, the left-hander was absolutely lit up by the lowly Kansas City Royals, surrendering five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. Muller has never faced the Yankees in his big-league career.
Muller vs Brito Stats
1-2 | Record | 2-3 |
6.62 | ERA | 6.08 |
34 | Innings Pitched | 26.2 |
21 | Strikeouts | 19 |
17 | Walks | 12 |
The Yankees’ pitching has actually been a bright spot, but Brito is pitching rather poorly. The 25-year-old owns an ERA of 6.08, also posting a 2-3 record. He’s struck out 19 against 12 free passes in 26.2 frames.

On May 5th, Brito was tasked with the MLB-best Rays, who knocked him out after four innings. Brito allowed four earned runs on six hits, including two home runs. This is the first time the rookie will face the A’s.

Another Brutal Campaign for the Athletics
Sure, it’s still very early in the 2023 season, but let’s be honest, the A’s aren’t going to turn things around. This franchise blew up its roster before last year and basically has a bunch of young players and prospects who they hope can turn into something special in the future.
While Oakland’s offense is nothing to write home about with a mere 3.9 runs per contest, their pitching is the biggest issue, ranking dead last in the big leagues in ERA, WHIP, opponent average, and home runs allowed. Yikes.
Judge is Finally Back
Despite being a couple of games above .500, the Yankees are last in the AL East, which is clearly the best division in baseball at the moment. To make matters worse, they’ve been without sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Thankfully, Judge is now back and will be looking to pick up where he left off.

Despite having one of the most talented MLB lineups around on paper, Aaron Boone’s group is slashing .231 as a team and scoring only 4.1 runs per game. Hopefully, the return of Judge can provide a spark.
Athletics vs Yankees Picks
With two arms on the hill who give up a boatload of runs, you have to hammer the over here. It’s undoubtedly worth a shot.
Pick: Over 9.5 runs (+100)
