The Phoenix Suns will be looking to bounce back from a 115-110 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in the series opener as the two teams meet again on Tuesday night in Game 2. The tip-off is scheduled for 10 PM ET at the Footprint Center and can be seen on TNT and Bally Sports Arizona.
The Clips locked down defensively and got a huge 38-point performance from Kawhi Leonard in Game 1 to grab a surprising road victory. As you’ll see below though, LA is still a notable underdog in the NBA odds.
Clippers vs Suns Game 2 Odds
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles Clippers | +7.5 (-108) | +265 | Ov 225.5 (-110) |
Phoenix Suns | -7.5 (-112) | -330 | Un 25.5 (-110) |
The Suns are laying 7.5 points and went 18-14-1 as an ATS home favorite in the regular season. They also have steep moneyline odds of -330 for an implied win probability of 76.74%. The Clips come back at +265.
Odds as of April 17th at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Kawhi Leading the Way
Leonard is a two-time NBA champion and two-time Finals MVP for a reason. The Klaw lives for playoff basketball and we saw just why on Sunday. The veteran was absolutely phenomenal for LA, dropping 38 while grabbing five boards and dishing out five assists.
Kawhi hit two massive triples late in the fourth quarter as well and also had some help from the likes of Eric Gordon and Norman Powell, who combined for 33 points. Ivica Zubac and Mason Plumlee were beasts on the boards, collecting 26 rebounds in total.
The NBA’s matchup data says Russell Westbrook defended Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul for 59 combined possessions last game…

Russell Westbrook might have finished with just nine points on 3 for 19 shooting in Game 1, but the guard showed why he’s so valuable. Russ swatted Devin Booker late in the final period and actually held Book, Kevin Durant, and Chris Paul to a mere six points when he guarded them. His defensive brilliance was on full display.
Will the Suns Respond?
Phoenix is seen as a clear-cut title favorite and has the third-best NBA Championship odds at +500. However, they failed to take advantage of a Clips team still missing one of their best players in Paul George.
It’s not like this was a bad showing from the Suns. I mean, KD had 27 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists. Booker dropped 26. Torrey Craig added 22 points. That being said, Phoenix’s slow start ultimately hurt them. Durant missed his first five shots and they went into the second trailing 30-18, never recovering.

Defensively, Monty Williams’ group has to find a way to slow down Leonard. That’s easier said than done, but they need to throw more help defenders at him and force the ball elsewhere. Oh, and the Suns bench must step up, getting outscored 34-10 by LA’s deep second unit. That was a big difference-maker.
Same-Game Parlay
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Kawhi Leonard to score 30+ points | +105 |
Kawhi Leonard 2+ made threes | -300 |
Parlay Odds | +132 |
Odds as of April 17th at FanDuel.
This one isn’t too risky, hence why the odds are just +132. But, it’s worth a shot. Kawhi is back in the playoffs for the first time in two years and he always rises to the occasion when the lights shine brightest. Leonard knows that if he doesn’t show out, the Clippers have no shot of knocking off the Suns. Coming off a red-hot Game 1, I expect him to put up 30+ points again. As for the triples, he’s canned at least three in four of the last five outings. There’s your evidence.
Clippers vs Suns Prediction
The Clippers showed very well in the opener. However, they’ve been rather inconsistent all year. The Suns will bounce back in a big way and grab a statement victory at home, despite Kawhi’s brilliance.
Pick: Suns -7.5 (-112)
