Arizona vs Miami Probable Starters
The D-backs will turn to veteran lefty Madison Bumgarner, who is off to a very rough start. Through two outings, he owns a 7.27 ERA, walking 10 in 8.2 innings while allowing seven earned runs.
Both of his appearances have actually come against the Dodgers. The first was downright brutal, but his most recent start on April 7th was slightly better. Bumgarner lasted 4.2 frames, surrendering two earned on five hits. He probably would’ve stayed in the game longer if it wasn’t for six free passes. In 14 career outings, Bumgarner has a 3.78 ERA vs Miami.
Bumgarner vs Rogers Stats
0-1 | Record | 0-2 |
7.27 | ERA | 6.00 |
8.2 | Innings Pitched | 9.0 |
7 | Strikeouts | 9 |
10 | Walks | 4 |
Trevor Rogers is also struggling early on for the Marlins. The 25-year-old is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA, failing to reach the five-inning mark in both of his starts thus far. Similar to Bumgarner, his outings were against the same team, the New York Mets.
Trevor Rogers tied for the 2nd-most whiffs on SAT. The changeup looked effective with a 39% whiff rate & 52% chase rate, yet some inefficiencies overall.

On April 8th, the southpaw allowed three earned runs on four hits across 4.2 innings, taking the loss. Rogers doesn’t have the best track record against Arizona, compiling an ERA over five in 10.1 career innings.

Solid Start for Diamondbacks
Arizona is surprisingly at the top of the always competitive National League West through 13 games with an 8-5 record. The Diamondbacks rank eighth in team average at .265 and have scored 4.7 runs per contest, which puts them 14th in the MLB.

Lourdes Gurriel provided the offense on Wednesday, crushing a three-run homer to propel Arizona to victory. That was one of his three hits on the night. Third baseman Josh Rojas also went 3 for 4.
Marlins Finding Momentum
After losing the series opener to Philadelphia 15-3, Miami bounced back in the final two games, outscoring the Phils 11-6. Good pitching was promising to see because prior to that, the staff had been poor.
The Marlins’ team ERA sits at 5.09, with their starters in particular failing to put their best foot forward. Jesus Luzardo is about the only exception. Offensively, Luis Arraez is absolutely raking, leading the way with a .500 average. He’s got 23 hits in 13 games. Time for the rest of the lineup to follow suit.
Diamondbacks vs Marlins Prediction
Both arms aren’t exactly dealing right now and the over has been hit in five of the previous six games between these NL counterparts. That looks like the best bet for Friday.
Pick: Over 9 runs (-105)
