Just a day away from the Masters teeing off, there are a plethora of wagers you can make on the year’s first major. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are co-favorites to win the 2023 Masters outright, while the Masters first-round leader odds show a tighter grouping at the top.
This article will focus on the best longshots to target at the 2023 Masters followed by the best Masters head-to-head picks.
Longshot Masters Odds
Golfer | Odds to Win | Top-10 Odds | Top-20 Odds |
---|---|---|---|
Cameron Smith | +3500 | +260 | +110 |
Justin Rose | +5000 | +400 | +150 |
Tom Hoge | +11000 | +750 | +260 |
Cameron Smith checks in at +3500 to win outright. Oddsmakers are a little leery of him, considering he now plays for LIV golf and hasn’t had a ton of tournament prep leading up to the Masters.

Cameron Smith Won Latest Major
Even though it’s popular to dismiss LIV golfers, Cameron Smith absolutely should not be in that category. Before he left the PGA Tour, he won the Players Championship in 2022, and also the latest major to be played, the Open Championship.

He also ranks first in total strokes gained around Augusta National in his last twelve spins on this course. He was T-2nd in 2020, T-3rd a year ago, T-5th in 2018 and T-10th in 2021. Last season on the PGA Tour, he was first in birdie and putting average and fifth in strokes gained: approach.

Justin Rose With Career Rebirth
The last few seasons Justin Rose hadn’t put up many strong results, but since the calendar moved to 2023, he’s back playing the golf we’re accustomed to. Rose won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and two starts ago was T-6th at the Players Championship.
The Englishmen has been oh-so close to slipping into a green jacket. He lost a playoff in 2017 and finished runner-up two years prior to that, to go along with four other top-10’s at this event. Asking him to win might be too tall of a task, but a top-10 is absolutely well within grasp for the wily veteran.
Pick: Justin Rose Top 10 (+400)
Tom Hoge an Intriguing Target
In two of his last three stroke play starts, unheralded Tom Hoge has placed inside the top-20. First, it was T-14th at the elevated event Genesis Invitational. Then, Hoge posted his second third place showing of the campaign, aided by a course record 62 at the Players Championship.
Tom Hoge broke the course record in third round with a 62 and finished T-3 in Players Championship.

He has seven top-20’s for the season, where he’s first in strokes gained: approach, and 14th in total strokes gained. He had a solid, if unspectacular Masters debut last year (T-39th), but followed that up with a T-9th at the following PGA Championship, so his game can translate to a top-20 this week.
Pick: Tom Hoge Top 20 (+260)
2023 Masters Match Play Head-To-Head Tournament Picks
- Xander Schauffele (+105) to defeat Tony Finau (-130): Both of these golfers are still in search for their first major title. Xander Schauffele has been very close at the Masters with a runner-up in 2019 and a T-3rd in 2021. Finau has had three top-10’s at Augusta, but nothing better than fifth. They have virtually similar stats of late (Finau eighth in total SG in last 24 rounds, X-Man ninth). Finau is third in approach, Schauffele eighth. With Xander’s slightly better play at Augusta, getting him at plus money is intriguing.
- Charl Schwartzel (+100) to defeat Sepp Straka (-120): Course history is often vital for success at this track. Charl Schwartzel won it in 2011, was third in 2017, and was 25th-26th-10th in the last three years. Sepp Straka hasn’t had a major finish better than 28th in six attempts. He also comes in with three results of 59th or worse in his last four tourneys. Like Cameron Smith earlier in this article, just because Schwartzel is on LIV, doesn’t mean he should be discounted. Take the plus money on him also.
