The year’s first major championship is finally upon us, and a lot of the world’s best golfers have been playing extremely well leading up to the 87th Masters. Front and center is defending champion Scottie Scheffler, who has two victories on the campaign. He’s the co-betting favorite alongside Rory McIlroy, who needs this to complete the career grand slam. Should he get it, the Ulsterman would be just the sixth man to join that exclusive club.
Another storyline sees 18 LIV golfers competing, including past Masters winners Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel and Phil Mickelson. Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka won the most recent LIV event in Orlando, and he’s seen his odds shrink dramatically.

Five-time winner Tiger Woods is also competing in just his second tournament of 2023, with his odds to win outright set at +7500.

Collin Morikawa Eyes Third Major
In five of the last seven major championships, Collin Morikawa has been inside the top-eight on the leaderboard, including his latest triumph at the 2021 Open Championship. That doesn’t even include the 2020 PGA Championship, where he won his maiden major. Last year he was fifth at the Masters, finishing off in style with a holed bunker shot on the 72nd hole.
Collin Morikawa’s Strokes Gained Stats Last 24 Rounds
Tee-To-Green | Ball Striking | Approach | Total | Off-The-Tee | Around-The-Green |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
4 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 19 | 36 |
Morikawa has done everything but get into the winner’s circle this season, with a second at the Sentry TOC, a third at Torrey Pines, T-6th at Riviera and he was T-3rd at the midway point of the Players Championship, before settling for a T-13th.
He’s second in strokes gained: approach on the year, fourth tee-to-green, and ninth overall. His putter is very hit or miss, but his ball striking is elite, so the instances where the putter has cooperated, he’s contended for titles. At +2500 to win outright, you’re getting him at longer odds than the top-eleven golfers on the board, so the value is quite solid.

2023 Masters Picks and Value Bets
- Sungjae Im (+3500): In three career appearances at Augusta National, Sungjae Im has put together a pair of top-10’s. Most notably, he was co-runner up in 2020, then finished T-8th a year ago. He has four top-10’s for the campaign, with a T-6th at TPC Sawgrass his latest outing in a stroke play event. For the season, Im is top-15 in total strokes gained and SG: tee-to-green, and top-20 in scrambling.
- Corey Conners (+3500): Canadian Corey Conners saw his price slashed in half from +7000 to +3500 following his victory at last Sunday’s Valero Texas Open. He’s been very solid in the last three Masters, posting top-10’s each time. In those twelve rounds, he’s fourth in total strokes gained, as he’s improved from T-10th, to T-8th, to T-6th in 2022.
- Justin Rose (+5500): Justin Rose has rebounded after a period of sketchy play and won in February at Pebble Beach. He’s been close to winning a green jacket on several occasions, most notably a pair of runner-ups in 2015 and 2017. For his career, he has six top-10’s at the Masters, including a seventh place showing in 2021. Rose also was T-6th recently at the Players Championship. He’ll be an interesting name in the top 10/20 markets.
