Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal Club World Cup Final Preview
It’s been four years since Real Madrid last lifted this trophy but they remain the most decorated club in this competition’s history, having won it in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. After earning their place in this season’s tournament by winning the 2022 UEFA Champions League, they qualified for the final by beating Al Ahly 4-1 in Wednesday’s semi.
A goal either side of halftime – from Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde – effectively put the semifinal out of the reach of the Egyptians and, even though they gave themselves a glimmer of hope by pulling one back midway through the second half, Real’s place in the final was confirmed with injury-time goals from Rodrygo and Sergio Arribas.

Record-Breaking Los Blancos
The win over Al Ahly was much-needed for Carlo Ancelotti’s men who last weekend dropped vital La Liga points when losing 1-0 away to Mallorca. It left Real’s La Liga hopes’ hanging by a thread – now eight points behind leaders Barcelona – so they will be doubly determined to land this trophy and win their silverware of the season.
Los Blancos’ record in this competition is outstanding. In addition to winning it a record four times, they have scored more goals (32) and won more games (10) than any other team.

First Saudis Ever in Club Cup Final
Al-Hilal’s outstanding 3-2 win over Flamengo in Tuesday’s semifinal means they are the first Saudi Arabian team ever to reach the final of this competition. They had narrowly qualified for the semi with a 5-3 win on penalties over Moroccan team side Wydad AC, but the win over the Brazilian giants was on another level.
Two first-half penalties from Salem Al-Dawsari and a third from Luciano Vietto were enough to give the Saudis the win although they were helped by Flamengo’s midfielder Gerson picking up a red card in first-half injury time. Despite the Brazilians responding with two goals from Pedro, it was the Saudis who booked their place in the final.

Al-Hilal in Fine Form
This is the Blue Waves’ third World Club Cup but their best showing by some way. In their previous two tournaments – 2019 and 2021 – they finished fourth both times, losing to Al Ahly and Monterrey in the third-place play-offs.
Worth noting is that, despite being massive underdogs, the Saudis are in great form and have only lost twice in their 19 competitive games so far this season. This will likely be closer than the odds suggest.
Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal Team Lineups and Injuries
Real Madrid Projected Lineup: Lunin, Carvajal, Nacho, Rudiger, Alaba, Kroos, Tchouameni, Modric, Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr.
Injuries & absences: Mendy, Hazard, Vazquez.
Al-Hilal Projected Lineup: Al-Mayouf, Abdulhamid, Jang, Al-Bulaihi, Al-Dawsari (K), Kanno, Cuellar, Marega, Vietto, Al-Dawsari (S), Ighalo.
Injuries & absences: Carillo (doubtful).
Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal Club World Cup Final Prediction
The ruthless way Los Blancos overcame Al Ahly will not have been lost on the management and players Al-Hilal. While their performance in beating Flamengo was one of their best ever, in order to repeat the feat against the mighty Real Madrid they will need to take it up another level.
There’s little value, however, in betting on the Real Madrid win and so, for me, the way to go is gambling on the Saudis keeping it super-tight over the 90 minutes and taking it to extra time. The +525 on offer is tempting.
Pick: Real Madrid and Al-Hilal to draw after 90 minutes (+525)
