Ground-Breaking Sounders

Overall the Seattle franchise is one with a rich history with two MLS titles on their honors board and have been runners-up twice. By winning the CCL, they completed the set of major trophies.

The Sounders will be the first MLS team to play in the Club World Cup, with Los Angeles Galaxy qualifying for the 2001 tournament but not competing due to it being canceled.

Al Ahly qualified for the competition by being runners-up in the CAF Champions League and were allocated the host nation berth after Wydad Casablanca qualified automatically by winning the CAF CL. To qualify for this second-round tie, Al Ahly beat Auckland City 3-0 on Wednesday in round 1.

In addition to having qualified for the second round of this competition, they also currently lead the Egyptian Premier League with an 11-4-0 record. This is the third successive season that they have qualified for the World Club Cup – their eighth appearance in total – and they have been winners of the CAF Champions League a record-breaking 10 times.

Only Five Goals Conceded…

Marcel Koller’s team are having a phenomenal campaign domestically and have conceded just five goals since the league began in October.
