Marseille vs Rennes Preview
Marseille coach Igor Tudor came under pressure from certain quarters following three consecutive defeats in October, but six straight wins and progression to the last 32 of the Coupe de France have quietened the noise.
This fine run has taken them up to third in Ligue 1 – just five points behind leaders, PSG – and with the Stade Velodrome becoming a fortress once again, Les Olympiens are well placed to earn themselves a place in next season’s Champions League. They are undefeated at home since the end of October.

Home Sweet Home for Marseille
Marseille also have an excellent home record in this competition and haven’t lost a tie there since the 2016-17 season, when they were knocked out by Monaco. In the here and now, they warmed up nicely for this tie with a 3-1 win at the weekend over Lorient.
In last season’s Coupe de France they made it through to the last eight before losing 4-1 to Nice. They have never lost to Rennes in this tournament with their last meeting, in the 2005-06 semi-final, ending in a comfortable 3-0 win.

Rennes Triumph Over the Giants of PSG
Rennes come into this game on a high after defeating the mighty PSG 1-0 at the weekend – the only goal coming in the 65th-minute from Hamari Traore. It was a win that took them up to fifth place in the Ligue 1 table, on the edge of the European places.
Not only was it the first time PSG have lost a domestic game this season, but it was also the first time they have failed to score a goal. It was the perfect response to Rennes’ first wobble of the season – two wins in their previous five games – and has given them a great launchpad now for the remainder of the campaign.

Poor Record at the Stade Velodrome
Les Rouges et Noir do however have to overcome a miserable recent record at the Stade Velodrome if they are to progress in this competition, having not won there in their last five attempts. When they met there in September it ended 1-1.
Rennes will be hoping for a good performance in Marseille in the hope of it banishing some bad memories from last season’s Coupe de France, in which they were knocked out by Ligue 2 Nancy on penalties.
Marseille vs Rennes Team Lineups and Injuries
Marseille Projected Lineup: Lopez, Balerdi, Gigot, Gueye, Kabore, Guendouzi, Veretout, Kolasinac, Payet, Sanchez, Dieng.
Injuries & absences: Clauss, Bailly.
Rennes Projected Lineup: Mandanda, Meling, Theate, Wooh, Traore, Tait, Ugochukwu, Bourigeaud, Majer, Doku, Gouiri.
Injuries & absences: Terrier, Xeka.
Marseille vs Rennes Prediction
Rennes will be full of confidence after beating PSG at the weekend but their hoodoo at the Stade Velodrome will hinder their chance of making it to the last 16.
With Marseille also in good form and with the Velodrome being turned into a fortress again, the plus-money home win for Les Olympiens offers decent value.
Picks: Marseille to win (+110)
