Life can be fickle, but what isn’t fickle is the backlash Elon Musk has received since he announced he was acquiring Twitter for $44 billion dollars a few months ago. Since then, he’s not been a beloved figure, and he created a poll that simply asked “Should I step down as head of Twitter?” – 57.5% of over 17 million responders said yes, and Musk claims he’ll abide by the results of the poll. He faced criticisms of, among other things, his approaches to content moderation.

Should he go through with it and step down, and find someone “foolish enough to take the job” (as he put it), there are some candidates that are coming to the forefront. The leading contender in the eyes of oddsmakers is Sriram Krishnan, who is a close confidante of Musk and helped monetize Twitter.
There are other interesting names that are far more unlikely to get the gig, including Jared Kushner, who was seen with Elon at the World Cup of Soccer Final. He’s a former US presidential adviser and Donald Trump’s son-in-law. Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency whistleblower, jokingly put his hat in the ring. Given that he’s in Exile in Russia since he leaked intel of US intelligence agencies, it’s a pretty good bet that he won’t be taking over.

There are three very clear frontrunners to take over – the previously mentioned Sriram Krishnan, Jason Calacanis, a longtime Musk associate, and David Sacks, who was involved at the beginning of PayPal with Elon. After that, the fourth choice is David Marcus at +1000, which isn’t close to the top three on the board.
Early Frontrunners for Next Twitter CEO
Realistically speaking it does seem like it’ll be down to just three choices, with Sriram Krishnan the top choice. He’s previously led product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook and Snap. He’s linked to Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm, and could help push crypto integration of Twitter with his connections.
Jason Calacanis has stated he wants to be the CEO of Twitter, wanting Musk to take the company over months ago. Musk asked Calacanis to be a strategic advisor when the deal was sealed. He’s considered a strong ally for Musk.

David Sacks is very similar to Calacanis, and that’s reflected in them having the same odds. He’s has experience running a company, and he was the former CEO of Yammer. He worked with Musk at Paypal, so they have a strong kinship.
Could Kushner Be a Darkhorse?
Sitting at +3300 odds, Jared Kushner would be quite shocking if he were the one to take over the role as CEO. He was seen together with Musk at the World Cup of Soccer, but is that enough to secure the head of such a lucrative company?
Internet rumor has it that Jared Kushner could be the next CEO of Twitter. This would be equal parts funny and horrific and by the iron historical laws of Our Era of Decline, will almost certainly happen

Given his ties to Saudi money and that he was senior advisor to President Donald Trump, there’s a good chance that Musk wouldn’t want to go down that road to incite more anger amongst Twitter users, making the value on Kusher not good enough.
Best Bet to be Next Twitter CEO
The top three choices have virtually no value attached to them at such short odds. Enter Jack Dorsey at +2000. The Twitter co-founder has run the company twice, so what’s to say he won’t do it again? There’s nobody quite as qualified to run the operation, though he resigned just over a year ago. Investors felt Twitter wasn’t getting his sole focus as he was with payment firm Square.
He doesn’t have solid ties to Musk himself as he’s the current CEO of Block, but he has prior history running the ship. His odds are intriguing, and screaming value at +2000.
