Group F action in Qatar officially begins on Wednesday with an intriguing fixture between heavyweights Belgium and a hungry Canada side, who is making their first appearance in the World Cup since 1986. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. Keep reading for the Belgium vs Canada prediction.
The Red Devils are expected to make some noise in this tournament, but they looked quite poor last Friday, losing 2-1 to Egypt in a friendly. The Canadians on the other hand, beat Japan in a tune-up match by the same scoreline, putting together an impressive performance without Alphonso Davies. The star wing-back will be ready to roll for this match, though.

By no surprise, Belgium is a -195 favorite for an implied win probability of 66.1%. Canada sits at steep World Cup odds of +550 for Wednesday’s tournament opener. That’s a mere 15.38% chance of coming out victorious.
This is the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
Over/Under and Spread
The total is set at 2.5 goals with the over sitting at -130. The under is at +108. The online sportsbooks appear to be expecting lots of action in the final third.
Belgium vs Canada Analysis
The Belgians’ golden generation is quickly aging and to be frank, their last legitimate chance to win a major competition was at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where they ultimately finished in third. The backline is old and relatively slow, plus up top, Romelu Lukaku is currently injured and doubtful to feature in the group stages. That leaves Michy Batshuayi as manager Roberto Martinez’s No. 9, but you still cannot take this frontline for granted.

Kevin De Bruyne is arguably the best attacking midfielder in the world and continuously produces the goods for both club and country. Thorgan and Eden Hazard are still special players. The likes of Youri Tielemans and Yannick Carrasco are also very capable and have lots of experience. The Red Devils should be able to penetrate the Canadian backline. It comes down to their defense stopping the young guns in red and white. Having a world-class keeper in Thibaut Courtois in between the sticks definitely helps.

Canada was truly the class of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, finishing in first place above Mexico and the United States. That’s typically unheard of for this nation, but John Herdman’s side is making it clear: They’re no longer a pushover. With several players making their mark in Europe such as Jonathan David, Davies, Cyle Larin, and Tajon Buchanan, among others, this is the best Canadian team in years and potentially ever.
Every player's dream is to play against the best 🔝

Davies, one of the top left-backs on the globe, suffered a hamstring just a few weeks ago with Bayern Munich. He missed both of the Canucks’ friendlies leading up to Qatar, but he’s expected to be in the starting XI on Wednesday after arriving late last week. His abilities on both ends of the pitch will be key. Canada faces a tough test against a strong Belgian attack, but as previously mentioned, they have the quality to make some noise in the final third.

Belgium vs Canada Lineups and Injuries
Belgium Projected Lineup: Courtois; Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Debast; Meunier, Tielemans, Witsel, Castagne; De Bruyne, Batshuayi, E Hazard
Belgium Injuries: Lukaku, T. Hazard
Canada Projected Lineup: Borjan; Laryea, Johnston, Steven Vitoria, Davies, Adekugbe; Buchanan, Hutchinson, Eustaquio; David, Larin
Canada Injuries: N/A
Belgium vs Canada Prediction
Comments from both Davies himself and Herdman are that Davies will be good to go for Canada. While that is huge for the Canadians, we have to remember, the Red Devils are still the #2 ranked country in the world. However, I do think the Canucks should give them a run for their money. Take the hosts to win and both teams to score.
Pick: Belgium to win & both teams to score (+210)
