New York Rangers Betting Analysis
New York continues to have some uneven performances despite some higher expectations. The Rangers seem to not be able to play well consistently. Their first period was solid but New York could not close the deal on Thursday night.
Igor Shesterkin phenomenal but failed by team in 3-2 OT loss to Seattle
-Second-period meltdown
-Vesey/Goodrow/Trouba on the ice barely a minute into OT
–#NYR MUST keep starting Igor (not a knock on Halak)
-Rangers take FOUR(!!) offensive-zone penaltieshttps://t.co/PeeuCGe88Y pic.twitter.com/ZFrv5T4kKe— Jon Chik (@JChik17) November 18, 2022
The New York Rangers making mistakes more often this season is unusual considering they commit an average of just 8.8 penalty minutes per game. New York’s bigger problem is their 8.9% shooting percentage despite averaging 34.3 shots per contest.
Seattle mentioned how patient they had to be when it came to Igor Shesterkin. The frustration of Shesterkin could bode poorly for San Jose later tonight along with New York’s up-and-down offense.
San Jose Sharks Betting Analysis
The San Jose Sharks can score quite a few goals, but the problem is this team gives up a ton of them too. San Jose scored four times against Detroit on Thursday night but allowed seven. Overall, the Sharks’ goal differential is -13. Giving up 69 goals in 19 games is not the worst in the league, yet close enough.
The Red Wings split California.
1-1-and-1 thanks to a 7-4 win over the San Jose Sharks.
San Jose won't forget this one, but they may not have Karlsson the next time these teams meet.

The problems with San Jose are considerable. Erik Karlsson looks rumored to be out the door as rumors continue to swirl. Their goaltending and team defense offer little resistance. Their even-strength issues are numerous despite their discipline in staying out of the penalty box (4th in penalty minutes, 2nd on the penalty kill).
Also, even with the Sharks ability to generate some offense, their goaltenders just cannot make the saves they need to. Both James Reimer and Kaapo Kahkonen have save percentages below .900. Their odds to win the Vezina Trophy are honestly zero. Worse, the Sharks’ backup has won just once this season. That said, Reimer should start tonight.

The teams faced off twice last season as the New York Rangers swept and shut out the Sharks. San Jose got revenge at MSG in October with a 3-2 win in overtime.
Rangers vs Sharks Prediction
Now, San Jose continues a home run of five games in six contests versus New York. Meanwhile, the Rangers are on their West Coast road trip right before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Rangers vs Sharks Same-Game Parlay Picks
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
New York Total Over 3.5 Goals | -120 |
New York Moneyline | -160 |
PARLAY ODDS | Â +130 |
The Sharks are expected to start James Reimer again as New York counters with Igor Shesterkin. As we mentioned above, San Jose has just one home win in ten games. At what point, do they snap out of this funk? It keeps boiling down to goaltenders making saves. San Jose’s save percentage at home is just .865.
Despite four straight meetings where the under has prevailed for bettors, there is an uneasy feeling that goals could come particularly later in this game. San Jose allowed four third-period goals on Thursday.
Pick: Rangers vs Sharks Over 6 Goals (-115)
