Firstly, Christian Pulisic is an easy shout to be the USA’s top goalscorer at the 2022 World Cup. The “LeBron James of Soccer” is a chalk pick here at +300, but he is the face of this team for a reason. The Chelsea winger scored five goals across seven World Cup qualifying starts, equating to 0.73 goals per ninety minutes. With Pulisic on penalty duty as well, this seems like the smartest play.

For me, the most value here comes from betting on the United States being eliminated in the quarterfinals. While this seems like a long shot, Group B is more open than it seems. If the United States could somehow snag first place, they could probably face Senegal instead of the Netherlands in the Round of 16.

Additionally, I have the over for both goals scored (3.5) and goals conceded (4.5) in my World Cup picks. This USA team is young and will make mistakes in the back half. On the other hand, they have a fully healthy attack, which should be able to find the back of the net more than three times. In the last four USA World Cup appearances, these picks have hit on 7/8 occasions.

Finally, I think there is value in the USA finishing on exactly six points at +550. In short, this is inferring the USA beats Wales and Iran, while losing to England. As a last-half-unit play, I do not mind the value of the USA scoring a penalty at +200. The record for penalties was shattered in Russia 2018 thanks to VAR, and I like our chances here.
