After a two-tournament stretch in Bermuda and Mexico, the PGA Tour returns to the United States for the Cadence Bank Houston Open. This marks the second last event in the 2022-23 fall series schedule, before a seven-week hiatus. Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course will host for the third consecutive year, with winning scores of 13-under and 10-under the first two iterations.

Scottie Scheffler has an opportunity to ascend back to world number one with a victory, something he very nearly did here a year ago. The Texas resident wound up in a tie for second, behind champion Jason Kokrak. Scheffler comes in with fine form, as he was tied for third at last week’s Mexico Open.

Sam Burns Comfortable At this Course

Two years ago, Sam Burns held the 54-hole lead at this course in his bid to win his first PGA Tour title. He didn’t play as well as he’d have liked on Sunday, resulting in a tie for seventh. At +1200, his odds are more than double that of the tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler, and based on his track record, he should at least be in with a shot to win come Sunday.

1. Hideki Matsuyama (+2200): Though Hideki Matsuyama hasn’t been firing on all cylinders in the new season (results of T-25, T-40, T-34), he absolutely must always be on the radar with these odds, against a field that doesn’t boast a ton of star power. He’s also had success at this venue, having tied for second at Memorial Park Golf Course in 2020. Getting the eight-time tour winner at odds longer than the top six on the board screams great value.
2. Joel Dahmen (+4500): The 2021 Corales champion is coming off a strong stretch of golf, highlighted by last week’s T-3rd in Mexico. That was his third top-20 result in the last four times teeing it up (the other was a T-37th). He was T-5th here a year ago, where he was first in ball striking for the week.
3. Will Gordon (+8000): When scouring longshot possibilities who will also have intriguing odds in the top 5/10/20 markets, Will Gordon stands out. He led in Mexico after round one last week, and he stayed in contention the whole way through, eventually finishing in a tie for third. The Korn Ferry Tour graduate won on that circuit a few months ago.
