At this point, 12 of the 16 Champions League knockout round places have been claimed. However, two spots are still available in Group D, as every team has something to play for on the final matchday. Sporting vs Eintracht Frankfurt is one of those matches, slated for 4:00 pm ET on Tuesday afternoon.
Currently, Group D is topped by Tottenham Hotspur on 8 points and followed respectively by Sporting, Eintracht Frankfurt and Marseille on 7, 7 and 6 points. Since Sporting has had favorable head-to-head results against both Tottenham and Frankfurt, a draw would put them through to the last 16. Moreover, they could still win the group with a victory and a Tottenham draw or loss.
Conversely, Eintracht Frankfurt needs a win if they want to advance in the Champions League. Honestly, this is a revenge mission for a side who were romped by Sporting in Matchday 1. If they do lose, there is still a chance to qualify for the Europa League, which would be a bittersweet consolation for the defending champions.

Both teams have everything to play for, which leads me to favor the over a bit more here. On top of that, we have some electric offensive talents on either side of the pitch. If anything, Frankfurt’s attack will want to prove their goose egg in the reverse fixture was a fluke.

Sporting to Score Over 1.5 Goals
Another play I have my eye on is Sporting to score over 1.5 goals, with odds of +115. In truth, Sporting have only won two matches in their last five games and the goals have sort of dried up. This was evident in this weekend’s loss to Arouca, where they were expected to score 2.1 goals, but were instead shut out.
Nonetheless, if anything can turn a season around, it is a chance for Champions League qualification. Pedro Goncalves is back in the starting lineup which means there is no excuse not to turn up on the offensive third.

Sporting vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction
All in all, I do see Sporting winning this match and qualifying for the Round of 16. I favored Frankfurt in the reverse fixture, and they were absolutely taken apart by Rúben Amorim’s side.
Now, Frankfurt have the tall task of playing at the José Alvalade Stadium, which will be rocking on Tuesday evening. This season, Sporting have a 5-0-2 record at their home ground, with their only losses coming at the hands of Chaves and Marseille. The Leões managed to qualify last year, so they will at least be familiar with the pressure that comes from playing a meaningful game on the final day.

With that being said, I do think Eintracht Frankfurt will make their way to the score sheet. The trio of Mario Gotze, Jesper Lindstrom and Randal Kolo Muani is so clinical and I have praised them all year long. It would be naïve to think that they would be shut out in consecutive games against a rather leaky Sporting back line.
