Spurs beat Europa League champions Frankfurt 3-2 on Matchday 4 a couple of weeks ago but have been in poor form since most recently losing to Newcastle over the weekend in Premier League action. As for Lisbon, they were beaten by Marseille in their last UCL fixture but won over the weekend in domestic play.

Tottenham is a heavy -230 home favorite for Wednesday’s match for an implied win probability of 69.70%. The visitors meanwhile come back at +600 moneyline odds. That’s a 14.29% chance of winning.
However, Sporting did run out as 2-0 winners on home soil against the Lilywhites on Matchday 2 in mid-September.
Both clubs are a longshot in the Champions League odds.

The total is set at 2.5 goals with the over sitting at -150 odds. The under is at +120.
Tottenham vs Sporting Betting Analysis
Spurs might be at the top of this group with seven points, but they’re not playing great football at the moment. Antonio Conte’s men are winless in back-to-back Premier League games, losing 2-0 to Manchester United and then tasting another defeat against a rejuvenated Magpies side on Sunday, 2-1. Nevertheless, Tottenham is still in third spot with 23 points and just five off league leaders Arsenal.

In Europe, they’re 2-1-1, beating Marseille and Frankfurt. The German club didn’t make it easy though, almost coming back from a 3-1 deficit late in the second half. Heung-min Son netted a brace for Spurs while Harry Kane also scored. This will be Tottenham’s fourth match in the last 11 days. You’d have to believe the squad is feeling worn down.
Tottenham vs Sporting UCL Stats
2-1-1 (1st in Group D) | UCL Record | 2-0-2 (1st in Group D) |
5 | Goals Scored | 6 |
4 | Goals Conceded | 6 |
9.0 | Shots Per Game | 6.0 |
After an impressive start to the Champions League campaign with two consecutive wins, the Portuguese standouts have hit a stalemate. They were embarrassed by Marseille by a 4-1 scoreline then struggled to produce the goods on home soil just a week later against the same opponent, losing 2-0. However, Ruben Amorim’s group is still in third with six points and only remains behind Marseille due to goal difference.

A victory on Wednesday could potentially push them to first place, putting them on the brink of progressing to the knockouts for the second season in a row. Domestically, the Lions aren’t their usual dominant selves though, currently in fourth. Also, Sporting has only come out victorious in two of their last 15 visits to England in European competitions, losing on nine occasions. Not a great sign.
Tottenham vs Sporting Team Lineups and Injuries
Tottenham Projected Lineup: Lloris; Sanchez, Romero, Lenglet; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Bissouma, Perisic; Kane, Son
Injuries & absences: Richarlison, Kulusevski, Dier, Betancur
Sporting Projected Lineup: Adan; Inacio, Marsa, Reis; Porro, Ugarte, Morita, Santos; Trincao, Edwards; Paulinho
Injuries & absences: Esgaio, Coates, St. Juste, Goncalves
The big absence here for Spurs is Richarlison, who could be out until the World Cup with a calf injury. Dejan Kulusevski is nursing an injury as well, while Eric Dier and Rodrigo Bentacur are serving suspensions.
On the Sporting side, Pedro Goncalves is their top scorer and playmaker, while Jerry St. Juste is a mainstay at the back who will be sidelined.
Tottenham vs Sporting Prediction
Spurs tend to turn up at home, remaining unbeaten in the UCL in North London and only losing once all term across all competitions in front of their supporters. But, it’s tough to back them given the absences and how lackluster they’ve looked as of late. Although Sporting isn’t exactly in great shape either, I’m liking the value in a draw here with both teams finding the back of the net.
Pick: Draw (+350), Both Teams to Score (-130)
