After seven years at the helm as host of ‘The Daily Show’, Trevor Noah has decided to step away. He had big shoes to fill, following Jon Stewart’s 16-year tenure as host of the popular program.

There are no shortage of options of who might replace Noah as host, with Roy Wood Jr. the heavy +200 favorite to do just that. He joined the show in 2015 and became one of their leading correspondents and recognizable faces.

Sportsbooks are offering odds on who will take over for Noah. Here are the odds for who will be the next host of ‘The Daily Show’.

The top choice on the board is Roy Wood Jr. who, as mentioned, has been with the show since 2015. He’s a pretty strong frontrunner to have such short +200 odds. Colin Jost is second at +700. He’s been a writer for Saturday Night Live since 2005, and has been Weekend Update co-anchor since 2014.

There’s a trio with the third shortest odds at +800, with Amber Ruffin, Jordan Klepper and Michael Kosta all considered strong possibilities.

Of course, there are some rather off-the-wall names that are super longshots to supplant Noah that would surely send shockwaves. The eight names with +6600 or longer odds, starting with Amy Poehler likely won’t happen, but they’re fun to think about! Imagine how Ricky Gervais or Steve Carrell would do in the role. As fun as it is to think of, it would be wise to not lay your hard-earned cash on them, as it’s realistically not going to happen.

Roy Wood Jr. The Favorite

According to TMZ, network executives see Roy Wood Jr. as the natural replacement for Trevor Noah. It’s happened before, when Noah was the successor to Jon Stewart, when he was promoted from within.

Executives are said to be anxious to lock him in with a new contract as he’s so in demand right now. Reportedly he’s hot in stand-up comedy circles, along with his success on ‘Confess, Fletch’, which is a crime-comedy film.

It’s expected to be an exhaustive search to land the next host to prop up the slumping ratings of ‘The Daily Show’. The network has to delicately balance bringing in a big name, with also handing the reins over to someone who will be the host for the long term.

Longshot Offering Decent Value

Wouldn’t it be a shot in the arm if Kenan Thompson was plucked from Saturday Night Live to give the show a fresh reboot? He doesn’t exactly sport odds that scream him being a serious contender, but at +2500, it presents some value should it actually happen. He’s the longest-tenured cast member ever in the near half-century run of SNL, as he’s been there since 2003. He had a short-lived sitcom on NBC ‘Kenan’ that lasted two years but recently wrapped up.

Despite that being a significant coup for Comedy Central, it’s hard not to think that they’ll stick in-house for their next permanent host. It may not yield much money, but Roy Wood Jr. has such low odds for a reason.
