It hasn’t been a great start to the 2022 NFL season for either the Cardinals or the Panthers.
Kyler Murray and the Cards got out-gunned in Week 1 against the Chiefs, scored 22 unanswered points in a comeback against the Raiders, and found themselves struggling to finish drives in Week 3 against the Rams.
In Carolina, the Baker Mayfield experiment…just hasn’t worked.
After completing 58% of his passes in Week 1, Mayfield has had a sub-50 completion percentage in both games since. As a team, Carolina has managed 38 points in that stretch.
Both teams will look to get their offenses in gear at Bank of America Stadium at 4:05 pm ET on Sunday.

For the Panthers, the under is 2-1 with sub-40 totals in Weeks 2 and 3. It’s no surprise that the money is trending towards the under when it comes to NFL Public Betting.
Cardinals, Panthers Offenses Struggling
It doesn’t take a ton of stats or metrics to tell you that these offenses simply aren’t producing.
Mayfield has led a Carolina offense that features the second-fewest passing yards and first downs generated through the air. He has also simultaneously cratered the fantasy value of DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey in the process.
They are one of 11 teams to have five or fewer offensive touchdowns so far this season.
While Arizona produced better in-game results through the first two weeks, Sunday against the Rams was troubling.
Cardinals Scoring Drives: Week 3
Quarter | Total Time | Plays | Yards | Result |
---|---|---|---|---|
2nd | 9:30 | 19 | 65 yards | Field Goal |
2nd | 0:46 | 8 | 47 yards | Field Goal |
3rd | 7:47 | 16 | 58 yards | Field Goal |
4th | 5:32 | 17 | 84 yards | Field Goal |
Those four drives took 23:35 of game time on 60 total plays, accumulating 254 yards. The fact they were only able to get four field goals out of all of that is stunning.
Kyler Murray threw for 314 yards. Marquise Brown caught 14 passes for 140 yards, while Greg Dortch caught nine for 80.
If they’re able to generate anything close to that kind of production again, you have to expect the points will come.
Cardinals vs Panthers Injury Report
The most notable name on either injury report is Christian McCaffrey.
CMC popped up on the injury report with a thigh injury, with Matt Rhule saying he’s ‘very hopeful’ about his availability. That’s some kind of endorsement.
Despite being an elite-level dual threat out of the backfield, McCaffrey hasn’t been used like it. He is dominating on the ground however, ranking fifth among RBs in yards and eighth in attempts.
Week 4 Injury Report
Cardinals | Injury, Status | Panthers | Injury, Status |
---|---|---|---|
Rodney Hudson, C | Knee, Questionable | Christian McCaffrey, RB | Thigh, Questionable |
Rashad Lawrence, NT | Hand, OUT | Stanley Thomas-Oliver, CB | Achilles, Questionable |
Zeke Turner, LB | Ankle, OUT | Laviska Shenault Jr, WR | Hamstring, Questionable |
JJ Watt, DE | Calf, Questionable | Marquis Haynes, DE | Knee, Questionable |
AJ Green, WR | Knee, OUT | N/A | N/A |
Zaven Collins, LB | Shoulder, Questionable | N/A | N/A |
Rondale Moore, WR | Hamstring, Questionable | N/A | N/A |
Marquise Brown, WR | Foot, Questionable | N/A | N/A |
The hand injury to Hudson could slow down their starting center, but the surprise was Marquise Brown. He was a late addition on Friday with a foot injury.
There’s a big fall-off at the position if he’s downgraded to out, but it seems like there’s a chance Rondale Moore makes his season debut.
Cardinals vs Panthers Pick
While the records are the same, these two are in very different stratospheres when it comes to the NFL hierarchy.
Based on the first three weeks, you have to think that last week was somewhat of an aberration for the Cards. If they’re able to hold the ball for that long again, their TD numbers should sit somewhat closer to Weeks 1 and 2.
The Panthers have beaten the Cardinals in each of their last six matchups, including two playoff games.

Meanwhile the Panthers have yet to impress in this young season. Against a banged up Saints offense, it took a defensive TD and a short pass that Laviska Shenault did all the work on for Carolina to skate by.
Getting the Cardinals as the underdog is an easy choice here.
The Pick: Arizona Cardinals (-105); 1 unit
