Boston vs New York Probable Pitchers
The Red Sox have struggled in the 23-year-old Bello’s starts, sporting a 2-7 record in his turns (Boston has gone 2-9 overall in his appearances). But that record is misleading, as the rookie from the Dominican Republic owns a 2-2 record and 1.69 ERA in September and was especially sharp in his most recent outing against the Reds on Tuesday.
Brayan Bello recorded his 2nd big league win tonight.
Since 8/1, he’s posted a 2.61 ERA, 34:12 K:BB & allowed just 4 XBH in 31 IP.

Bello limited Cincinnati to a single run in five innings of work in the 5-3 victory. His first two innings proved particularly noteworthy, blitzing through a perfect first frame in just nine pitches (eight strikes) while notching a pair of strikeouts and getting three swings-and-misses. Then, he wriggled off the hook in a bases-loaded jam in the second — all in the most homer-friendly environment in baseball this year.
Meantime, Cortes has been one of MLB’s breakout stars this season. New York has gone 17-9 in the lefty’s outings, 11 of which have been of quality vintage. Along with ace Gerrit Cole, “Nasty Nestor” has been one of the mainstays in a Yankee rotation that seen its share of ups and downs in 2022.
Nestor Cortes has the lowest ERA by a Yankee starter this century.

That stat alone is stunning. But the first-time All-Star has been a revelation for Boone’s club. Following a rough patch that saw his the Yankees drop four of the five games he started, New York has won the 27-year-old’s previous two starts. Cortes went five innings against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, allowing five hits, an earned run, and two walks while striking out four in an eventual 9-8 victory.
Bello vs Cortes Stats
2-6 | Record | 10-4 |
4.75 | ERA | 2.67 |
3.85 | xERA | 2.80 |
21.6% | K% | 25.6% |
The Red Sox lost their fourth straight — and third in a row to their bitter rival — on Saturday in a 7-5 loss. Triston Casas and Reese McGuire each went deep in the second, but it wasn’t enough to emerge victorious.

Xander Boegarts went 2-for-4 and took over the AL batting lead from Aaron Judge at .315.
Meantime, the Pinstripes have won six straight and 10 of their last 12 with the team and much of baseball buzzing about Judge. Since hitting his 60th home run of the season on Tuesday, the probable AL MVP is 3-for-13 with two doubles, five walks and six strikeouts.

Rizzo’s blast broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning on Saturday, reaching his career high of 32 homers for the fourth time.
New York has +5500 odds to win the Fall Classic, while Boston is at +400000 in the World Series odds.

Red Sox vs Yankees Prediction
With Boston in full-wait-’til-next-year mode and New York essentially locked into the No. 2 seed in the AL postseason picture, it’s all about Judge’s pursuit of history.
Bello’s recent performances have been encouraging, but the Yankees want to keep momentum going with Cortes on the bump. The smart money is on the Bombers in this spot.
