These are tough times for Juve and if they were hoping to turn over a new leaf in 2022-23 after a disastrous 2021-22, they will be disappointed. They kick off against Benfica on Wednesday night hoping for a first win in seven, are down in eighth in Serie A, and in their UCL league opener last week they lost to PSG. For Max Allegri’s Juve, it has been a season largely of draws – four to date in their six Serie A games – with the latest coming in very controversial circumstances on Sunday when they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Salernitana.

At the weekend, they maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Primeira Liga over Braga with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Famalicao – a win that set them up perfectly for this game, which is likely to be their toughest test of the season so far.
