Bayern is listed here as -123 odds-on favorites for the win, which has a 55% implied probability, while Barca are pitched at +275 for the win, which brings with it an unusually low win probability of 27%.
The draw offers a decent return, given Bayern’s odds-on status, of +330, for which there is an implied probability of 23%.

Over/Under and Spread
Caesars has listed over 3.5 goals at an unappealing -105 with the flip side, under 3.5 goals, also unenticing at -125 – a sign this is a tricky one to call in terms of it either being open and end-to-end or nervy, where the two teams cancel one another out.

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Prediction
Bayern has great pedigree in this competition – they’ve won it no fewer than six times – but last season’s quarterfinal exit at the hands of Villarreal was a disappointment for a club used to getting to finals. They are, however, relatively recent winners of this trophy after getting to the final in 2019-20 and beating PSG 1-0.

They are among a small group of teams regarded as potential UCL winners and made the perfect start to this season’s campaign when they traveled to Inter Milan on Day 1 and came away with a sensational 2-0 win – goals from Leroy Sane and an OG from D’Ambrosio.
No Bundesliga Flyer for Bayern
Unusually for Bayern, they haven’t made a flying start to their domestic season and have drawn their last three. At the weekend, Julian Nagelsmann’s twice led at home against Stuttgart but dropped two points after conceding a 92nd-minute penalty.
🗣️ @esmuellert_: We obviously know that Barcelona have had a great start to the season. But it makes the task even more attractive. We want to play on the edge to win the game. Having six points would be a big step in the right direction towards reaching the next round.#FCBFCB pic.twitter.com/IMcgXB8E9o

So, the win in Milan aside, it hasn’t been an especially impressive start to the season for Bayern, which makes this visit from the Catalan giant even more intriguing. These two did, however, clash in the group stages of last season’s UCL with Bayern winning both legs 3-0!

Lewandowski on Fire
Barca also has great pedigree in this tournament – they’ve won it five times – but last season was a nightmare after not even making it out of the group stages. Their subsequent Europa League campaign was equally disappointing as they crashed out in the quarter-finals. The last time they lifted the Champions League trophy was in 2015 – a long time ago for a club of Barca’s stature.
Things have started to look a little brighter for them this season, despite their off-field problems, and they made an excellent start to their 2022-23 UCL campaign by easily beating the minnows of Viktoria Plzen 5-1. Ex-Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski scored a hattrick in that game and is guaranteed a ‘warm’ welcome inside the Allianz Arena.

Xavi’s Ultra-Mean Defense
Barca was also victorious at the weekend when they ran out easy 4-0 winners away to Cadiz – a win that took them briefly to the top of the La Liga table. That made it five wins on the spin and so they head to Germany in great shape, having conceded just two competitive goals so far – one in the Bundesliga and one in the UCL.
Under the guidance of Xavi, this Barca team looks capable of going deep in this tournament, and the addition of Lewandowski combined with that ultra-mean defense means they are well prepared for the challenges that await.

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Pick
This will be huge – two heavyweights slugging it out for the top spot in Group C. While there’s a case for the Barca win, given their win in Milan, the odds offer no value.
The case for a Barca win – especially after the double-defeat last season – is arguably stronger, so let’s go bold here and say the Catalans are going to edge it by the odd goal.
Pick: Barcelona to win (+275)
