The Texas Rangers (60-79, 31-39 away) face the Miami Marlins (57-82, 27-40 home) on Monday at loanDepot Park in the first game of a short two-game interleague set between a pair of franchises that have failed to live up to expectations this season. First pitch for Rangers vs Marlins is scheduled for 1:10 pm ET.
Texas interim skipper Tony Beasley sends Glenn Otto to the mound, while Miami manager Don Mattingly counters with Trevor Rogers. The home team is a slight favorite in this one.

Texas vs Miami Probable Pitchers
The Rangers have managed to go 10-12 in Otto’s turns this season — five of which have been of the quality variety. A former fifth-round pick of the Yankees — who came to the Rangers as part of the Joey Gallo trade last season — has pitched at least five innings in 16 of his 22 outings in 2022.
"Feels good to get in the win column again, hopefully we can get something going here, get some wins stacked together.

The lanky right-hander only went four innings last Tuesday against Houston in his most recent start. But he pitched well, allowing five hits, two earned runs and a walk while striking out five in a 4-3 victory over the team with the best record in the American League.
Meantime, coming off an All-Star appearance, Rogers entered this season as a +5500 contender in the Cy Young odds. But he only got longer from there and Miami owns a disastrous 5-16 record in his starts this season, with only three of those being of the quality vintage.
Rogers missed nearly five weeks of action between late July and late August with lower back spasms. However since his return, the lefty has pitched well.

Rogers went six innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs and no walks while striking out eight last Wednesday in an eventual 4-3 loss to the Phillies. It was his second straight quality outing (but also the second straight loss suffered by the Marlins with him on the bump).

After winning nine of 13 game in the second half of August, the Rangers have utterly fallen off the abyss. Texas has dropped 12 of 14 going back to August 27th. The club was able to salvage the series against Toronto on Sunday, beating the Blue Jays 4-1. Adolis Garcia launched one down the field-field line into the second deck for his 24th homer of the season, going deep for a second consecutive day. It was the fifth time this season that he has homered in back-to-back games.

Leody Taveras went deep as well in the win. Meanwhile, Marcus Semien had his 22-game on-base streak snapped, which was the longest current active streak in the majors.
Miami has been nearly as bad as Texas has of late. After taking two of three against Oakland in a three-game series in late August, the Fish have dropped 13 of 15 games. Mattingly’s club latest defeat was a 9-3 decision to the Mets on Sunday. Brian Anderson homered twice — his third career multi-homer game — to provide all the offense.

Jesus Aguilar leads the club with 15 dingers in 2022. Both teams are at +500000 in the World Series odds.

Rangers vs Marlins Prediction
Rogers has pitched well since returning from his stint on the injured list, but it’s hard to trust Miami’s offense doing much.
Texas still has the superior offense in this spot, so we’ll go with the visitors.
