The race to finish second in this year’s Formula 1 Driver Standings heats up this weekend, with the running of the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix. In the wake of his master class performance while driving to a third straight win in last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen now sports a massive 94-point lead atop the standings, and has also emerged as a heavy -200 favorite to claim victory in Holland for a second straight year.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of Sunday morning’s running of the 2022 Cutch Grand Prix at 9:00am ET at Circuit Zandvoort.

As Verstappen pulls away from the pack, F1 betting fans face an increasing challenge to find value further down the odds board. Indeed, while Charles Leclerc sits second to Verstappen as a +370 bet, his recent uneven performances have inspired little confidence in the Ferrari’s ability to recapture the form that earned him victories in two of this season’s first three races.

Checo Podium-Bound Once Again?

Currently just 21 points separate four drivers in the hunt for second place in the F1 Drivers Standings, with Sergio Perez currently holding the edge after finishing second behind his Red Bull teammate last weekend. “Checo” has powered his rise in the standings with a consistent season-long performance that has featured top five finishes in all but one of the 12 races he has been classified in this season.

Despite last week’s solid drive, Checo lags as an attractive +1200 bet to claim his second win of the season this weekend. However, the better value can be found in his attractive -105 odds to reach the podium for the eighth time. Perez’s consistency also makes a wager on another Red Bull double podium finish a must, with those odds currently sitting at +105.

Fade Leclerc

With his fast start to the 2022 campaign now all but a distant memory, it is tough to justify backing Charles Leclerc to launch his comeback this weekend among the dunes of Zandvoort. After finishing top two in four of the first five races of the season, Leclerc has managed to reach the podium just once in nine subsequent outings. Those struggles have extended to qualifying, where he has won just once in six outings after seizing the pole in six of the season’s first eight events.

Of course, dubious team orders and technical problems have played a huge role. That was the case again last week, when debris became lodged in the brake duct of Leclerc’s Ferrari, forcing him to make an early pit stop. However, inexplicable driver errors have also cursed Leclerc, who was saddled with a five-second penalty at the end of last week’s race for speeding in the pit lane, which dumped him to sixth place.

While Leclerc sags, his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. has emerged as the best hope for Ferrari. The talented Spaniard impressed while claiming the pole last week in Belgium. And since turning in a pair of early-season DNFs that had more to do with his driving than technical problems, Sainz has emerged as a constant threat to reach the podium, finishing top five in eight of the last 10 races. As a result, he cannot be ignored as a -105 bet to reach the podium this weekend.

Russell Remains Consistent

With nine drivers getting tagged with penalties to start last week’s race, opportunity knocked for George Russell. However, a disappointing qualifying session forced the 24-yar-old Englishman to settle for the No. 8 spot on the starting grid. Undaunted, Russell did what he has done all season, turn in a steady drive, but with little hope of keeping pace with the Red Bulls, he was forced to settle for fourth place.

With 10 finishes among the top four so far this season, a trip to the top of the podium is inevitable for Russell. It just won’t be this weekend.
