After hitting a bit of a bump in the road, the Chicago Sky (25-8, 14-3 home) look to have rediscovered their mojo. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the Seattle Storm (20-13, 7-8 away).
The defending WNBA champion Sky are 5-1 straight up over their past six games. They’ve also covered the spread in successive victories over the #2 (Connecticut Sun) and #3 (Washington Mystics) teams in the Eastern Conference.
Seattle is the #2 team in the Western Conference, but the Storm is living up to their name heading down the stretch toward the WNBA playoffs. The Storm has lost four of their last five road games. Overall, they’re 5-5 SU through the past 10 games.

Oddsmakers at Illinois sportsbooks are liking Chicago to keep on rolling at home. The Sky are solid 5-point home favorites in this game. Chicago’s 14-3 home mark is the best in the WNBA.
Tip-off for this game is set for 5:00 pm ET on Tuesday, August 9 at Wintrust Arena. The game is available for viewing on NBA TV in the USA and TSN in Canada.
At a moneyline of -205, the Sky are given an implied probability of victory of 67.21%. Bet $10 on Chicago to cover the spread and if the Sky does indeed come through with the victory by more than five points, that will provide a payout of $14.90.
In future book betting, Chicago is the chalk in the WNBA championship odds. The Sky, reigning WNBA title holders, are given odds of +180 to repeat as champions. The Storm are the fourth choice in this betting market at +700.
Chicago Sky Are Rolling
Not only did the Sky win back-to-back games against their closest pursuers in the East, they did so while putting up 90+ points on the board in both victories.
Balance in attack continues to be Chicago’s strategy for success. In a 94-91 win over the Sun, five different Sky players hit for double digits on the scoreboard.
Sky win. 25-8. Here's the game-winner: beautiful set with Candace posting the switch, making the touch pass to Emma Meeseman who drains the game-winning three.

Courtney Vandersloot and Candace Parker led the way with 20 points apiece. Vandersloot added five assists, while Parker grabbed 12 rebounds, Allie Quigley and Emma Meesseman each contributed 15 points, and Kahleah Cooper posted 11 points, along with five rebounds.
In their previous win over the Mystics, there were six Chicago players who scored in double figures.
Storm Struggling Down the Stretch
Despite a season-high 35-point performance from forward and WNBA MVP contender Breanna Stewart, the Storm came up short 89-81 in their last game against the Western Conference-leading Las Vegas Aces. It was her second straight game with a season best performance. Stewart netted 33 points in an 89-77 victory over the Minnesota Lynx.

Fighting for home-court advantage for the opening round of the WNBA Playoffs, the Storm are scuffling down the stretch. Adding to Seattle’s woes, the Storm are without head coach Noelle Quinn. She tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed into the league’s health and safety protocols.
Storm vs Sky Prediction
Seattle is among the WNBA’s best defensive teams and the Storm have given Chicago fits in two meetings this season. The Storm have held the Sky to an average of 74.5 points per game this season. That’s more than 10 points below Chicago’s 86.2 ppg average.

The home team has won each game so far in this series. Chicago beat Seattle 78-74 on July 20 to clinch a playoff berth. The Sky are maintaining a two-game lead over the Aces for the top seed in the WNBA Playoffs, so they’ve got plenty to play for as the regular season is winding down.
Chicago is 4-1 SU overall in the last five games against Seattle. The Sky is also 4-1 SU in the past five home games when facing the Storm.
