Can Anyone Beat Swiatek?
21-year old Swiatek won her 33rd straight match when she defeated 11th seed Jessica Pegula, which earned her a spot in the semifinals of the French Open. It took 89-minutes for Swiatek to defeat Pegula 6-3, 6-2.
For the second time in her career, Swiatek will make a French Open semifinal appearance. The last time she went on to win the Slam in 2020.

In her quarterfinal match, Swiatek was tested earlier on by the American. Pegula was able to save multiple match points in the second set, and the two went back and forth with service breaks. But ultimately, Swiatek was able to come out on top with her 30 winners to 28 unforced errors, while she broke Pegulas in five of 11 opportunities.
She’ll now take on Kasatkina who she’s defeated three times already this year.
Kasatkina Continues to Dominate in France
Kasatkina came out on top against fellow 25-year old Veronika Kudermetova, when she defeated her 6-4, 7(7)-6(5), to earn her spot in the final four of the Grand Slam.
After taking the first set, Kasatkina was heavily challenged in the second, but managed to built a 6-1 lead in the tiebreaker, and defeated Kudermetova when she landed a backhand drop shot.
Oh, sweet, sweet relief.

Kudermetova looked to battle some sort of injury during the match. The 25-year old took a medical timeout when she held a 6-5 lead in the second set. She then went on to lose the next nine of 10 points.
Kasatkina, who has yet to drop a set all tournament, only managed 16 winners in her quarterfinal match, but with Kudermetova’s 50 unforced errors, she was able to secure the win. She’ll now look towards her toughest match of the tournament, against the unstoppable Swiatek.
Fifth Meeting Between Swiatek and Kasatkina
These two are no strangers to one another, specifically this year. The first meeting between Swiatek and Kasatkina came last year, and as mentioned, they’ve faced each other three times already in 2022.
Kasatkina won their one meeting in 2021, with Swiatek taking all three this year, leading the head-to-head 3-1.
In all three matches this year, Swiatek won in straight sets.

Is Swiatek the Best Bet Again?
The easy answer is yes.
Swiatek has been the favorite to win the tournament since before it started, and her odds have just continued to shorten.
Kasatkina will look to give her a run, but odds are nothing will really throw Swiatek off her game. The 25-year old will have to find more winners against an opponent like Swiatek if she wants to win or take a set off her.
Swiatek is red hot at the moment, and it looks like she’ll put herself in a position to battle it out for her second French Open title later this week.
Best Bet: Iga Swiatek 2-0 (-320)
