We’re down to the final eight teams in the Europa League as the first leg of the quarterfinals kick off on Thursday, April 7th. There are only one English and one French side remaining in the competition and they’ll come together when West Ham United hosts Lyon at London Stadium at 3:00 pm ET.
The Hammers celebrated one of their greatest European triumphs last month, defeating Sevilla 2-0 in extra time of the second leg to advance to this point. Lyon also had a tough round of 16 tie with Porto, but we’re able to defeat the Portuguese side 2-1 on aggregate.
This is the first ever competitive meeting between these two clubs. Let’s look at all the odds for this matchup below while deciding what’s the best bet for this affair.

West Ham United Betting Favorites at Home
With the first leg at London Stadium, the Hammers will be determined to make the home advantage count as they’ve done throughout this competition so far. They have conceded only one goal in four home matches in this season’s Europa League and conceded nothing to Sevilla in their second leg in the round of 16 propelling them to the quarterfinals.
A night we will never forget 🤩

The Hammers are having one of their best seasons in recent memory, both in the Premier League as well as Europe. They currently sit sixth in the EPL table. But they have aspirations to finish in the top four to secure qualification to the UEFA Champions League, in what would be an incredible achievement.
The quarterfinals are the furthest stage West Ham has ever gotten to in the UEFA Cup/Europa League and you can expect another 60,000 raucous fans pushing them heavily towards a first-half advantage on Thursday.

Lyon Inconsistency Cause for Concern
Lyon is struggling in Ligue 1 play, sitting ninth in the league thanks to inconsistent form. They are eight points out of third place in France’s top-flight with just eight games to play. So it seems as if their only avenue towards Champions League qualification next season would be to run the table in the Europa League. Their Europa League odds sit at +1200, right below their opponents who have the fourth-best odds at +650.
The club is coming off a thrilling 3-2 victory over Angers on the weekend and are hoping to carry that momentum over in the first leg as they enter what is expected to be a very hostile environment in east London. Lyon have never won a match against a London-based English club. But are on a run of five straight away victories in UEFA competition.
They are a serious threat as an attacking force and won’t give second chances in that respect. Moussa Dembele struck twice on the weekend vs Angers and also scored the marker in the second leg against Porto that pushed them to this point of the Europa League.
Moussa Dembele has opened the scoring for Lyon against Angers with his 11th Ligue 1 goal of the season! 🔥

Dembele will likely be relied on to provide the offensive threat against West Ham as well, as the French side deals with injury issues.
West Ham and Lyon Lineup Concerns
Both sides will be missing key cogs in their squad in the first leg. The visitors are hoping Karl Toko Ekambi, who sat out the weekend win due to illness, will recover in time for this match. The Cameroonian forward is the co-leader with six goals in the Europa League this season.
West Ham boss David Moyes is set to make a late call over Ben Johnson's fitness for Thursday's Europa League showdown with Lyon.

West Ham will likely be missing more regulars than the French side. Attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini is suspended for the match having accrued three bookings earlier in the competition. David Moyes squad is also likely to be without full-back Ben Johnson. He missed the match against Everton after ‘feeling his hamstring’ on duty with England Under 21s.

West Ham United vs Lyon Prediction
West Ham skipper Mark Noble, who has announced that his 18th season with the club will be his last, praised the “phenomenal” noise inside the London Stadium during the previous round as one of the reasons for his club getting to this stage and you can bet it will be rocking once again.
Goals won’t be easy to come by in London. Especially with both sides probably missing key attackers. While West Ham is tied for the most clean sheets in the competition with five, Lyon sit right behind them with four. So take under 2.5 goals in what should be an ultra-competitive match on Thursday.
