Chelsea will have to recover from one of the English Premier League’s shock results of the season when it hosts Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Ahead of the last eight clash with the Spanish giants, Tomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side was thrashed 4-1 at home by Brentford last Saturday.
Brentford is in its first season in the English top-flight in 75 years.

With former Madrid’s Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti missing the game with COVID-19, Chelsea is the favorite on the moneyline for a home first-leg win by Barstool Sportsbook at +102.

Meanwhile, Madrid is rated at +290. The draw, furthermore, is a very attractive proposition at +240.
However, neither of these sides is among the leading contenders in the Champions League odds to win the trophy.
The kick-off in London is at 3:00 pm ET.
Chelsea Knocked Out Madrid Last Season
Holders Chelsea overcame Madrid on the way to lifting the trophy last season.
The teams met at the semifinal stage. Chelsea secured a 1-1 first-leg draw in Spain before winning 2-0 at home in the return.
So obviously, the Spaniards will be seeking revenge – as well as hoping to ensure that they capitalize on their stunning last 16 elimination of Paris Saint-Germain.

The French team won 1-0 in Paris. But Karim Benzema scored an impressive second-half hat-trick as Madrid roared back to win the return meeting by 3-1.
There is turmoil surrounding Chelsea off the pitch amid the enforced sale of the club by Roman Abramovich – ordered by the UK Government as part of sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
However, things had remained calm and progressive on the pitch until the shock hammering by Brentford.
Chelsea coach Tuchel was at a loss to explain the defeat by Brentford.
It brought to an end a run of five straight league wins which had underlined Chelsea’s defensive strength. It conceded just twice during that run while scoring 11 times.
So that left coach Tuchel at a loss to explain the defeat by Brentford – with the German admitting he was baffled by the result.

Now it sits in third place in the EPL. However, its title hopes are over as leader Manchester City has a 14-point gap over the Londoners and are one of the favorites with Liverpool in the EPL odds.
Moreover, Chelsea had been in impressive form in the UCL, too. It eased to a double victory against Lille – winning 2-0 at home and then 2-1 away.

The team also faces an FA Cup semifinal against London rivals Crystal Palace later this month – having lost on penalties in the EFL Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
Defensively, the side is impressive in the UCL, too – having won its last six home games in the competition and kept a clean sheet every time.

Even so, it will have to be very wary of the potent striker Benzema – especially if Madrid land a penalty.
He scored both goals from the spot in the weekend win against Celta Vigo – although he also missed one in the same game.
Benzema Has Hit Five Penalties In Six La Liga Games
Indeed, in the last six La Liga fixtures, he has scored six times – five times from penalties.
Meanwhile, Madrid is closing in on a title win in Spain.

It leads second-placed Barcelona by eight points with eight games remaining.
Yet Barcelona proved its renewed form by beating Madrid 4-0 in the El Clasico derby at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on March 20.

However, that was Madrid’s only defeat in the last 10 games – with seven wins and two draws.
The manner of the win against Vigo, though, confirmed that Madrid had not fully recovered from the pain inflicted in its HQ by Barcelona.
These teams are old rivals – having met in the European Cup Winners Cup final in 1970-71.
Meanwhile, Benzema is priced at a compelling +225 to get on the scoresheet in London.
The Chelsea forward most favored for a goal is Romelu Lukaku at +230.

These teams are old rivals – having met way back in the European Cup Winners Cup final in 1970-71.
Chelsea won the trophy with a 2-1 victory in Athens in a replay following a 1-1 draw.
And, to sum, up a draw looks likely again in the UK capital. With so much at stake, this first leg looks like being a tight and cagey affair despite the glamourous nature of the tie.
