Oscar sounds like a solid name for a dog and this year, the Academy Awards appear set to throw several bones . . . er, Oscars, to the film The Power of the Dog.

Power of the Dog director Jane Campion is the overwhelming -2400 chalk to take home the Best Director Oscar. The Western psychological thriller, based upon the 1967 Thomas Savage novel of the same name, is the -105 second betting choice to win the Best Picture Oscar in the Academy Awards odds.

Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes will co-host the 94th Academy Awards. The show is being carried live by ABC on Sunday, March 27 at 8pm ET.

Oddsmakers seem to be recognizing this insider scuttlebutt as well. CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), has overtaken Power of the Dog and is the -135 chalk in this category. It’s got Marlee Matlin and an important message. The folks in Hollywood love this kind of flick.

Speaking of Colman, here she is, nominated for her work in The Lost Daughter. There’s also -160 favorite Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), up for a Best Actress Oscar for the third time.
