And as the scene shifts to Saudi Arabia this weekend for the second round of the 2022 F1 campaign, Leclerc has emerged as a short +130 favorite in the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix odds

Leclerc Sparks Ferrari at Bahrain Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc maintained the momentum he gained with his impressive performance in pre-season testing last weekend in Bahrain. Leclerc dominated in qualifying to seize the pole position, and never looked back on his way to his first victory on the F1 circuit since taking home the checkered flag at the 2019 Italian Grand Prix.

Leclerc’s Ferrari turned in top times in both days of recent preseason testing, further enabling the 24-year-old Monte Carlo native to build on the steady results he compiled down the stretch last season, which he finished with top five finishes in six of his final 10 outings. That run featured a solid outing last December at the inaugural edition of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, where Leclerc earned a spot in the second row on the grid before finishing in seventh place.

The importance of Carlos Sainzs’ strong start cannot be understated. Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate finished just 0.006 seconds back of Max Verstappen in qualifying to earn the No. 3 spot on the gird in last week’s season opener. And with Sainz effectively holding off threats from Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez on his way to a second-place finish, Leclerc was able to keep his focus on his duel with Verstappen.

Indeed, Sainz’s strong start has not been overlooked at the sportsbook, where the 27-year-old Spaniard has emerged as a high-value +650 bet to claim his first-ever F1 victory, and a worthwhile -150 wager to return to the podium for the third time in as many race appearances.

Saudi Arabia Grand Prix Odds Favor Red Bull Regroup

It is tough to overlook how Red Bull’s early-season technical woes have benefited Ferrari. Both Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez failed to finish last weekend’s race in Bahrain. The duo each experienced power losses that were reportedly caused by fuel system problems. And while Red Bull has publicly offered assurances that the problem has been addressed, last week’s debacle has left sports bettors understandably nervous.

Despite the technical concerns, Verstappen remains Leclerc’s closest competition in the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix odds, where he is pegged as a close +150 second favorite, while Perez sits off the pace at +1800. Red Bull took a hit in the F1 Constructors Championship odds, moving down to third.

Verstappen emerged as a dominant force while powering to his first ever F1 title last season, finishing among the top two in 17 of the 18 races he completed. The 24-year-old has also turned in reliable results in qualifying since the beginning of last season, claiming a spot in the front row on 14 occasions over that stretch. Accordingly, he offers value as a +170 bet to grab the pole in Sunday’s race.

Mercedes Benefiting from Red Bull Struggles

It has also been a tough start to the campaign for Mercedes. But unlike the technical problems that Red Bull hopes to have quickly resolved, the German constructor’s issues may not be so easily addressed.

After closing out the final day of preseason testing with a last-place performance, Lewis Hamilton struggled to keep pace in Bahrain while finishing fifth in qualifying. The seven-time F1 champion was eventually able to claim third place after Verstappen and Perez were both forced to retire. But with both Ferrari and Red Bull clearly enjoying better pace, Hamilton sits as a distant +1000 bet to claim a second straight win in Saudi Arabia.

It was also a disappointing Silver Arrows debut for George Russell in Bahrain. The 24-year-old Englishman finished qualifying over 1.6 seconds behind Leclerc in ninth place. And while the 24-year-old Englishman turned in a career-best fourth-place performance, he has yet to earn the confidence of oddsmakers, who list him as a distant +2800 bet to win on Sunday. And a +500 wager to reach the podium.
