With the NHL trade deadline, just days away, it’s looking like a seller’s market, which is good news for both the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators who play against each other Friday night at the Canadian Tire Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm ET in the nation’s capital.
Both teams have really struggled this season, although expectations were much higher for the Flyers who were at +104 in the Eastern Conference Playoffs odds before the season began, but now sit between +4000 and +5000.
All the talk surrounding Philly these days is whether or not they’ll trade Claude Giroux by Monday and what they’ll possibly be able to get in return. It’ll be interesting to see if they sit him to avoid injury against the Sens with the deadline looming. Let’s look at the Flyers vs Senators odds and give you our NHL best betting prediction.
Flyers vs Senators Odds
Game Time (ET) | Team | Puck Line | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|---|
Friday, March 18th | Philadelphia Flyers | +1.5 (-250) | O 6.5 (-105) | +100 |
7pm ET | Ottawa Senators | -1.5 (+200) | U 6.5 (-115) | -120 |
Odds as of March 17th at DraftKings
The Flyers have the fewest amount of road wins in the league, so the Senators are -120 moneyline favorites in this game giving them an implied win probability of 54.55%. This matchup is a bit of a coin toss though, as Ottawa has accumulated just 11 wins at home this year, 4th-worst in the league.

Philadelphia Flyers Betting Analysis
It doesn’t matter if the Flyers are playing a team who has been just as bad as they are, the wins still don’t come. Philadelphia are 3-10 in their last 13 against teams with a losing record, which is partly a reason why they are underdogs against a lowly Senators team in the Friday NHL odds.
We may have already seen Giroux’s swan song in the orange and black. The captain became just the second Flyer ever to skate in at least 1,000 games with the organization Thursday night in an entertaining 5-4 win against Nashville. Philadelphia seemed determined to win that contest for Giroux.
Reaching 1,000 games with the same club is a huge milestone, but Giroux been making headlines for other reasons for weeks now. The rumor mill has been running rampant, as he is arguably the best player on the trading block.
A special milestone for a special player. 🧡
Congratulations to Claude Giroux (@28CGiroux) on reaching 1,000 NHL games played!

Needless to say, Giroux and the Flyers didn’t expect to be in this position, especially after starting the season with an 8-4-2 record. Since then, they have won just 11 of 48 games, a .229 winning percentage.
In terms of return on investment, they are the 4th-best team to bet against in the whole league against the spread, providing a return of 17.03% of your money when betting against them to cover.
Senators Value as Betting Favorites
The Senators haven’t been made betting favorites too often this season and when they have, it hasn’t worked out too well. Ottawa lost 5-3 to the Coyotes and 4-1 to the Blue Jackets earlier this week.
In both games they were favorites, making them 3-6 straight up on the moneyline when oddsmakers have pegged them to win this season.

When looking at goal totals, the Senators have been one of the best teams to bet the under on this season, with a 36-23-1 under record and return on investment of 16.55% of your money when picking their games to go lower than the predicted total.
They’ve scored just 19 goals in nine games so far this month, a goals per game average of 2.1. Overall, they have the 27th ranked offense in the league and only one player, Brady Tkachuk, has 40 or more points for the Senators so far this season. To put that into context, the Colorado Avalanche already have four players with 60 or more points.
The Flyers won the only previous meeting between these two this season, a 4-3 overtime victory on December 18th.

Flyers vs Senators Pick & PredictionÂ
This game will be the first time the Senators are a head-to-head favorite against the Flyers since 2017. The Senators have covered the spread the last six times they’ve played each other.
While the Flyers may sit out Giroux, the Senators will definitely be without their top defenseman, Thomas Chabot, who broke his hand in Wednesday’s contest against the Blue Jackets.
Chabot, a one time contender in the Norris Trophy odds, had been one of the few bright spots for the Senators this year, but is now likely done for the season.
Sens injury updates from D.J. Smith:
Thomas Chabot – Fractured hand. Good chance he won’t play again this season.
Tim Stützle – Lower body injury. Questionable to play vs PHI on Friday.

Both teams are playing out the string, but this game will be the second half of a back-to-back for the Flyers after an emotional win over Nashville on Thursday night. While the Senators have lost three in a row at home as favorites, Philadelphia is a team ripe for the picking to break that streak before Ottawa leaves for a three game road trip.
Our best NHL bet for this one is to pick the Senators on the moneyline at -120 at DraftKings sportsbook in the Friday NHL odds.
