After a thrilling Players Championship that saw Cameron Smith hang on for a one stroke victory, the PGA Tour heads to the Tampa area for the Valspar Championship. The most recent Players champ is not in the field, but five of the top ten golfers are teeing it up.
Collin Morikawa and Victor Hovland are competing, along with Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Dustin Johnson to round out the top players. JT and Hovland find themselves as +1000 co-favorites to claim the title. Sam Burns, who was in contention through 54 holes at TPC Sawgrass, returns to the scene of his first PGA Tour triumph a year ago. Two-time champion of this event Paul Casey withdrew Tuesday from this tournament.
The Innisbrook resort Copperhead Course is a challenging test of golf, with the par-71 layout seeing a 10-under-par or higher winning score in six of the last eight iterations. Holes 16-18 are known as ‘the snake pit’, where a lot of hopes of winning the championship are dashed at the penal closing stretch.

Jason Kokrak Excels at Copperhead Course
It took Jason Kokrak a while to break through on the PGA Tour, but after 233 starts, he claimed the 2020 CJ Cup at Shadow Creek. Since then, he has won two more times to prove that he can be a force in golf tournaments.
Kokrak very nearly won his first title in 2019 at the Valspar Championship, where he wound up in a tie for second, just one stroke behind champion Paul Casey. That was part of a T-8th, 2nd, T-13th run in the last three times he’s teed it up at this event. Subsequently, his strokes gained stats in the last 24 rounds at this course have been solid.
Jason Kokrak’s Strokes Gained In Last 24 Rounds at Innisbrook
Tee-To-Green | Ball Striking | Approach | Total | Off-The-Tee |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 3 |
In his last seven trips to the Copperhead Course, Kokrak has made the cut six times, putting together five top-15’s. For a player that is that comfortable at this venue, his +2500 price tag is intriguing, as he has longer odds than the top-seven golfers on the board.

2022 Valspar Championship Best Value Picks
- Shane Lowry (+3000): Shane Lowry found himself in the mix at the Players Championship before settling for a respectable top-15 result. In his last six worldwide starts, the 2019 Open Champion has put together five top-15’s, including a second place at the Honda Classic. Third in SG: approach and fifth tee-to-green in last 24 rounds on tour.
- Keegan Bradley (+5500): At Sawgrass, Keegan Bradley was in contention deep in the final day, before an untimely bogey-double bogey last two holes dropped him to fifth. The event before that, the 2011 PGA champ was T-11th at Bay Hill. Last year, he led or co-led this tournament the first three days before settling for a runner-up. Third in SG: tee-to-green in the last twelve rounds at this track.
- Gary Woodland (+8000): Gary Woodland is a past champion at this tournament (2011), and ranks tenth in total strokes gained in the last twelve rounds. Before a missed cut at the Players Championship, he had posted back-to-back T-5th finishes.
