What QB-needy team isn’t hooked on the possibility of landing Aaron Rodgers?
The buzz picked up after the reigning back-to-back NFL MVP dropped an Instagram post that everyone was trying to decipher.
While there are still odds Aaron Rodgers retires — and what a blow that would be for football fans, losing Tom Brady and Rodgers in the same offseason — oddsmakers still consider Green Bay the betting favorite for where he’ll suit up next year.
The Pack have always been the presumed landing spot, even when his football future was dicey at the start of last year, but is it the right bet?
Let’s try to crack the code and see where Rodgers could potentially end up.

Rodgers’ IG Post Sets NFL Abuzz
Let’s be honest: read enough appreciation posts across your social feeds, and the goodwill starts to wear on you.
Not in this situation, however, as Rodgers dropped a lengthy gratitude post on Instagram late Monday, thanking, among others, his teammates, head coach and ex-girlfriend Shailene Woodley.
Suddenly, every football fan, player and reporter had some sort of analysis, breaking down the post and the 10-image reel.
The last picture in Aaron Rodgers’ Instagram post is this one. He is in every photo he posted except this one.
He normally stands between Cobb and Adams for the national anthem…
(This looks like the game he missed in KC)

Of course, in typical Rodgers form, he went on the Pat McAfee show the next day to say there was nothing to cryptic about gratitude, and that was the first thing that came to mind after a 12-day cleanse.
He said there was no decision on his football future on any front. He did say, however, that his decision would be coming soon.
That part is certain, and the timing of that post couldn’t be any more nerve-wracking for Packers fans. Just a day earlier, the window for franchising players was open (Feb 22-Mar 8).
Is there a possibility the #Packers could keep a competitive team despite their cap issues while still having Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams?
Brian Gutekunst: "I feel very confident about that."

It’s no secret Rodgers, already the betting favorite in the 2022 NFL MVP odds, wants all-world receiver Davante Adams back in the fold. Adams is an unrestricted free agent, and it’s expected the Pack will use the tag on him, which should lead to negotiations for a long-term deal.
How Green Bay’s front office maneuvers this offseason will be the true test: they are already $42 million over the cap, before signing Adams and any other players to improve their roster. Rodgers has made it clear he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild.
Rodgers’ Options Open This Season
Part of Rodgers’ return to Green Bay this season after a major offseason of discontent was to gain back some leverage in his current situation with his team.
The details, besides the front office vowing to open communication lines more in roster and team decisions. He was definitely a part of the decision to bring back Tom Clements as QB coach.
Brian Gutekunst asked about the Packers hiring Tom Clements as QB coach, says it’s an example of how Aaron Rodgers has been involved in conversations about things that affect his job.
So yes, Rodgers was part of the decision to hire Clements.

The rest of the deal focused more on Rodgers’ escape plan, if things didn’t get better. It started with the Pack taking the final year of his current deal off his contract, leaving him as an unrestricted free agent after this season instead of next. They also agreed not to franchise tag him at the end of this deal.
Perhaps the biggest caveat: If Rodgers does request a trade after this season, the team would do so. He now has the option to request a trade or play out this year and seek out his preferred destination after this campaign.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst wouldn’t address whether he would trade Aaron Rodgers if the QB wants to play elsewhere.
He called it a hypothetical that he’s not going to discuss.

Logically, that’s the best option. Under Matt LaFleur, the Pack have gone 39-10 in the last three seasons, winning three straight division crowns. The playoffs have not been so kind, as Green Bay entered this year having lost back-to-back NFC title games.
How conservative was Aaron Rodgers against the 49ers?
"That was as apathetic of a performance in a playoff game that you will ever see out of a future Hall of Famer." — @TyDunne pic.twitter.com/5oz09aP0GI

As the top seed in the NFC this year, they lost at home to the San Francisco 49ers 13-10 in the divisional playoff. Rodgers was just 20-29 for 225 yards, and after an opening drive TD, his offense could only muster three points.
What’s the Best Bet?
As much as Denver would be willing to give up a king’s ransom to land a franchise QB, and the Broncos sport a roster that seemingly only needs that element to become major players, it’s not an easy destination.
It’s conceivable Rodgers would be the third-best pivot in the division, and getting out of the AFC West would be a war, having to deal with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.
What if the Broncos make a blockbuster trade with the Packers for Aaron Rodgers? 💠pic.twitter.com/0ZKHFzZPMW

San Francisco is a plug-and-play destination for a team that just got to the NFC Title game with Jimmy Garoppolo, and the Colts have a prime running attack and stout defense.
Still, the NFC North is a cakewalk right now, and whether Rodgers trusts the Pack (the relationship is better now, he says), it’s pretty clear they’re his best path to a second Super Bowl title.
The pick: Packers (-250)
