Final Rams vs Bengals Injury Report for 2022 Super Bowl with Game Statuses for Higbee and Uzomah

As the clock ticks down toward the opening kickoff for Super Bowl Sunday, both the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals remain in tight spots as far as their starting tight ends are concerned.

Bengals TE CJ Uzomah suffered a left MCL sprain in the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Rams TE Tyler Higbee sprained his left MCL as Los Angeles was overcoming the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Both had uncertain statuses in the early injury reports this week.

Uzomah has returned to some limited participation at practice this week but isn’t assured of playing on Sunday. Higbee hasn’t seen the field since suffering his injury.

Here’s the final injury report for both of these teams ahead of Sunday’s 6:30 pm ET kickoff at SoFi Stadium in California. The Rams are 4-point favorites in the latest Super Bowl odds. However, NFL money splits show the public is backing the Bengals.

Los Angeles Rams Injury Report

Higbee remains a non-participant in Rams’ practices. That doesn’t bode well for his chances of playing on Sunday, although LA coach Sean McVay indicated at the start of the week he didn’t expect Higbee would practice at all leading up to the game.

Higbee’s five touchdown receptions during the regular season were third among Rams receivers. He’s caught nine passes for 115 yards in the postseason. That’s a per-catch average of 12.77 yards.

Other Rams Injury Concerns

Left tackle Joe Noteboom (chest) remains limited in practice due to a chest injury. However, running back Cam Akers (shoulder) was a full participant. With Darrell Henderson (MCL sprain) poised to be activated from IR, the Rams can deploy a three-back rotation along with Sony Michel.

Wide receiver Van Jefferson and left tackle Andrew Whitworth (quadriceps) both have returned to full participation in practice. On defense, cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey (shoulder) and Grant Haley (quadriceps) and linebacker Christian Rozeboom (elbow) were also full participants.

Uzomah Closer to Playing In Super Bowl

Uzomah was upgraded from DNP to limited in the latest Bengals injury report. While that’s certainly progress, there’s no guarantee that he’ll be playing. That is, other that Uzomah’s claim that there’s no way he’ll be missing out on the biggest football game of his career.

Uzomah was carted off the field early in the AFC Championship Game. Uzomah caught five TD catches during the regular season but they all came in Cincinnati’s first seven games.

He’s snared one TD reception in the playoffs among his 13 catches for 135 yards. Uzomah has caught 78.5% of targets sent his way by Cincy QB Joe Burrow.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor commented that Uzomah was progressing nicely but wouldn’t commit to his presence in the lineup for Sunday’s game.

Carman Returns to Full Participation

Right guard Jackson Carman (back) was a full participant in practice and is expected to start for the Bengals on Sunday.

Likewise, DE Cam Sample (groin), WR Stanley Morgan Jr (hamstring) and DT Josh Tupou (knee) were also full participants.
