It’s a lineup built for Hollywood.
When the Los Angeles Rams vs Cincinnati Bengals meet in Super Bowl 56, the halftime show will be dotted with just as many stars, and there will be as many halftime show props as Super Bowl game props as well as broadcast props for Super Bowl.
Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J Blige are all scheduled to perform on a makeshift stage at SoFi Stadium, an event that’s wagered on as much as the game itself.
While the modern Super Bowl halftime show history dates back over 30 years, Blige is the only return performer among this group of A-listers. She was part of an ensemble cast that featured Aerosmith, NSYNC, Britney Spears and Nelly back in 2001
Let’s get into the halftime show props, starting with the opening song. Feel free to jump to a section of your choice using the menu, below.

Is First Song Ladies First?
You have to go way back to Super Bowl 38 to find an ensemble performance as large as this one. And who can forget it? It featured Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, P Diddy, Nelly, Kid Rock and Justin Timberlake. There’s really only one lasting memory from that performance, and it wasn’t the first song.
In fact, with all that star power, the first song was actually a joint performance of “The Way You Move” by the marching bands Spirit of Houston, from the University of Houston, and the “Ocean of Soul” of Texas Southern University.

The first artist to appear was Simpson, and the first artist to perform was Jackson, who sang “All for You”.
This one is going to be a tough call. California Love is the rightful favorite, with an ode to the state where the game is being played. Yet, it’s hard not to imagine Eminem dropping “Lose Yourself” to set the tone, also considering he’s the artist most known to all audiences.

Still I can’t shake Blige kicking things off with “Family Affair”. it’s uptempo, and the end of her first lyric is the perfect jumpoff to get into the meat of the show:
Come on baby, just, party with me
Let loose and set your body free (oh)
Leave your situations at the door
So when you step inside jump on the floor
I see fireworks and Snoop and Dre lighting things up quickly after that.
Pick: Family Affair (+450)

Dr Dre Built to Close
Part of the reason this is so hard to handicap is that none of these artists are currently in the spotlight, but renowned for their entire body of work. Of the five, Lamar released Damn in 2017, which led to a Grammy for best Rap Album in 2018.

Assuming Mary J kicks things off, then it leaves the door open for Dr Dre to close up shop with “California Love”, or he could take it into the ’90s with Snoop for “Nuthin’ But a G Thang”, which provides a natural out: So just chill, till the next episode.
With thoughts shifting back to the second half, however, Eminem could be in the mix too, with “Lose Yourself”.
The pick: California Love (+150)

Picking the First Artist Shown
The last time more than one performer shared the top billing for Super Bowl Halftime was just two years ago, when Jennifer Lopez and Shakira co-starred in Super Bowl 54. It was split into an opening/closing configuration, with Shakira opening, helped along the way by both Bad Bunny and J Balvin, before JLo hit the stage and the two joining together for a finish.

You can almost guarantee that no single artist will get a full 6-plus minutes to open like Shakira did.
The Snoop-Dre combo is actually the bet you’re aiming for here if you want to nail the two-artists prop.
We’re going to stick with the Blige, who we chose to perform the first song.
The pick: Blige (+500)

Shades on Stars in Super Bowl 56
The two that are prime for this bet are Snoop and Blige. Google almost any Blige performance, and she’s almost always got on specs, and while Snoop is shaded up a lot of the days as well.
Lamar, Dre and Eminem aren’t largely known for their sunglass game, so you’re looking at one or two.
The pick: 2 (+155)

Over/Under Songs Performed
This one is all over the map. Last year, the Weeknd got through nine songs during his Super Bowl setlist, but just year prior, Shakira and JLo packed 17 songs in their set.
In 2019, Maroon 5 also performed nine songs, while Justin Timberlake crossed the total with 11. Lady Gaga rounds out the last five performances with just seven songs.
Only JT and the Shakira/JLo have gone over the total in the 2000s.

I just think there are so many different medleys these artists can put together that it’s possible they could be the third show to go over this total.
There’s no hard set time on the performance, and they average anywhere from 20-30 minutes. Normal NFL halftimes are around 12-14 minutes. With so many big names on this card, look for them to max out the time on stage.
