Liberty will put its long home winning streak on the line and get a rare visit from a power conference team when it hosts Missouri at 7:00 p.m. ET Thursday at Liberty Arena in Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty (3-3, 2-0 home) has won 39 straight games at Liberty Arena. Clemson will be the first team from a power conference to come to Lynchburg since 2009.

Missouri (4-3, 0-0 road) ended a two-game losing streak Monday by beating Paul Quinn 91-59. Liberty has won back-to-back games, including 73-61 over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday, and is favored in a game that will be shown on ESPN+.

Veteran Brown Leads Mizzou

Missouri has just two rotation players back from last season’s NCAA Tournament team. One of them, junior forward Kobe Brown, has been leading the way in 2021-22 after being more of a role player a year ago.

Brown tops Missouri with 15.4 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. He is also averaging 2.9 assists.

Against Paul Quinn, an NAIA program, Brown was no match as he had 20 points, 23 rebounds and six assists – all team-leading figures. Brown also had a pair of steals while notching his second double-double of the season.

Junior guard Amari Davis is scoring 11.1 points a game in his first season after transferring from Green Bay. The Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2019-20 had 14 points and four assists Monday.

Massachusetts transfer Ronnie DeGray III has also made an immediate impact with averages of 10.0 points and 6.7 rebounds.

Junior guard DaJuan Gordon, a transfer from Kansas State, finished with 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and four three-pointers against Paul Quinn. Senior guard Javon Pickett added 12 points.

Missouri held Paul Quinn to 39.0% (23 of 59) shooting, had a 49-36 edge in rebounding and forced 19 turnovers. However, the Tigers led just 18-14 with 8:41 left in the first half before scoring 14 straight points to start a 24-5 run that stretched the advantage to 42-19 by halftime.

Liberty’s McGhee Big-Time Player

Liberty senior guard Darius McGhee has picked up where he left off last season when he was the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year while leading the Flames to their third straight league title.

Despite an off-night shooting against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday, McGhee leads the Flames at 18.3 points a game. He is also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

McGhee scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds on Saturday but made just 1 of 9 attempts from three-point range.

Senior wing Keegan McDowell is Liberty’s only other double-digit scorer with an 11.2 average. He had 16 points, one short of his season-high, against Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Junior forward Shiloh Robinson came off the bench to register 13 points and seven rebounds, his top marks of the season in each category. Robinson helped Liberty to a 35-25 advantage on the boards.

Missouri vs Liberty Prediction

The teams met last season at Missouri and the Tigers came away with a 69-60 victory, though neither Brown nor McGhee had a particularly good game.

Brown scored two points in 15 minutes and McGhee was 1 of 8 from three-point land while finishing with nine points.

As the winning streak attests, Liberty is tough to beat home. However, it isn’t every day a program the caliber of Missouri comes to town.
