- Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz is the -230 favorite over Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in their ATP Finals round-robin match on Tuesday, November 16
- Both players were losers in their first match of group stage play
- The two players have split two previous on-court meetings
The last time Matteo Berrettini and Hubert Hurkacz met on a tennis court, both players were enjoying career-altering moments. That was in June on the grass courts at Wimbledon.
Berrettini defeated Hurkacz in four sets in the semifinals. For each player, it was the furthest either had advanced in a Grand Slam event.
As they meet in round-robin play at the ATP Finals, the biggest question to be answered is whether Berrettini will be able to survive the match? He retired from his first match against Alexander Zverev due to an abdominal injury.
Hurkacz also dropped his opening match to Daniil Medvedev, making the showdown with Berrettini a must-win scenario for both players.
Oddsmakers are rolling with Poland’s Hurkacz as the -230 favorite over Berrettini of Italy.

Hubert Hurkacz Betting Trends
Including his successful semifinal run at Wimbledon, world #9 Hurkacz is 22-11 in his last 33 matches. He won in Metz, reached the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris and was a quarterfinalist at the Canadian Open and at Indian Wells, also both Masters 1000 tournaments.
His opening match of the ATP Finals marked the third time since June that Hurkacz had clashed with world #2 Medvedev. Hurkacz beat Medvedev in the round of 16 at Wimbledon. He lost to him in the Canadian Open quarterfinals.

The Polish player got their latest meeting off to a hopeful start. He took the first set via tiebreaker 7-6(7-5). However, Medvedev rallied for 6-3, 6-4 decisions in the next two sets to claim the match.
Hurkacz proved unable to break Medvedev’s serve, meaning he could never win more than one game in a row. Meanwhile, the Russian managed a pair of service breaks against Hurkacz. The Pole was only able to win 78% of his first service points, compared to the 88% won by Medvedev.
Matteo Berrettini Betting Trends
Berrettini was trailing Zverev 6-7(5-7), 0-1 early in the second set when he suffered his injury. Berrettini underwent treatment at courtside and sought to resume the match.
However, after contesting the next point, he was unable to continue playing. Performing in front of his hometown fans in Turin, Berrettini broke down in tears as he left courtside.

Earlier this year, shortly after the Australian Open, world #7 Berrettini was sidelined for two months due to an abdominal injury. It’s not certain whether this is a recurrence of that injury.
Coming into the ATP Finals, Berrettini was 20-5 over his last 25 matches.

For that reason alone, you have to give Hurkacz the edge here. The Polish player has won three of his four career ATP titles this year. Hurkacz was 16-7 in ATP Masters 1000 events through the 2021 season.
Pick: Under 21.5 games (+125), Hurkacz 2-0 (+100)
