Max Verstappen will be looking to pad his growing lead atop the Formula 1 Drivers Standings when he hits the track for Sunday afternoon’s running of the 2021 Brazilian Grand Prix as a strong -190 favorite. Verstappen is coming off back-to-back wins in the United States and Mexico and has finished no worse than second in six of his past seven-race appearances. The only driver still in striking distance of Verstappen in the race for this season’s F1 crown, Lewis Hamilton has taken home the checkered flag in two of the past four editions of this race but faces a huge challenge to outpace Verstappen this time around as a +225 second betting favorite in the Brazilian Grand Prix odds.

Fresh off yet another dominating victory last weekend in Mexico City, Max Verstappen enters the final month of the 2021 Formula 1 campaign firmly in control of his own destiny. The winner in nine of this season’s 18 races to date, Verstappen now holds a 19-point lead over Hamilton in the standings. Verstappen has also enjoyed past success at this event. He earned the win the last time this race was won in 2019 and has reached the podium on three occasions.

It has been very much a feast or famine campaign for the 24-year-old Red Bull racing driver, who has claimed a spot among the top two on 14 occasions while failing to finish in three of his other four race appearances. Not surprisingly, the Dutchman has also cemented his position on the F1 Drivers Championship odds, where he is now perched as massive -450 chalk.

However, in addition to continuing the pursuit of his first career F1 Drivers Championship, Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez will also be eyeing the top of the Formula 1 Constructors Standings on Sunday afternoon. Red Bull has pulled to within one point of Mercedes in the standings on the strength of both Verstappen’s steady string of wins and a late-season surge by Perez.

Listed third in the Brazilian Grand Prix odds as a +1200 bet, “Checo” has been key to Red Bull’s climb in the Drivers Standings after claiming third place in each of his past three outings. That level of success has eluded the 31-year-old Mexican in Brazil, where he has finished no better than ninth in his past three appearances. However, with the benefit of the fastest car on the track, and his proven skill at keeping pace with his Mercedes rivals, Checo has vaulted to a short -165 bet to reach the podium once again this weekend.

While Verstappen has sung the praises of his veteran teammate for his recent performance, the relationship between Lewis Hamilton and his lame-duck Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas has grown decidedly frostier. Set to leave the German automaker following the mid-season news that he will be replaced by George Russell next year, Bottas has very much put personal success ahead of team performance in recent weeks. That has translated into top six finishes for the talented Finn in five of his past six outings.

However, criticism from both Hamilton and team principal Toto Wolff in the wake of an opening-lap collision with Daniel Ricciardo in Mexico City that doomed Bottas to a distant 15th-place finish is unlikely to lead to a thaw anytime soon. Simply put, Hamilton can no longer count on Bottas to adhere to team orders, or to sacrifice himself for the benefit of the reigning world champion. But with four top five finishes to his credit in Brazil, and plenty to prove, Bottas cannot be counted out as a high-value +150 wager to reach the podium on Sunday at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
