After enduring a difficult stretch of seven races in which he cracked the top five on just one occasion, Sergio Perez has reverted to steady form in his past two outings. In addition to providing Verstappen with a huge assist in his bid to claim his first career F1 world championship, Checo has maintained a steady presence on the track. The 31-year-old native of Guadalajara is coming off a solid qualifying run in Austin, claiming a spot on the second row for the first time in six outings.

Perez would love nothing more than to take home the checkered flag in front of his fellow countrymen. However, he faces a huge challenge to overcome a shaky track record in Mexico City, where he has finished no better than seventh in five previous appearances. However, this time around Perez enjoys the benefit of being behind the wheel of the fastest car on the track. While team orders are likely to favor Verstappen and his pursuit for the crown, expect Checo to once again remain in the mix at the front of the pack.

As for Verstappen, he remains in firm control of his championship destiny with just five races remaining on the 2021 F1 calendar. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a dominant campaign and received a boost from red Bull’s recent engine upgrades. The results speak for themselves. Verstappen has finished first or second in 13 of the 15 races he has completed so far this season. And with a widening 12-point lead over Hamilton in the F1 Drivers Standings, Verstappen has dramatically improved to a -250 favorite in the F1 Drivers Championship odds.

Verstappen has also enjoyed previous success in Mexico, taking home the checkered flag in two of his past three appearances. However, two notable threats to Red Bull’s increasing dominance remain.

However, the legendary English driver’s chances are likely to be highly dependent on his qualifying results. Hamilton has started from the front row in six of his past eight outings, a trend he must continue to avoid falling behind Verstappen and Perez early.

In addition, it would be unwise to overlook Charles Leclerc, who looks to the weekend as a +1800 bet. The Ferrari driver has finished among the top five in four of his past five outings, capped by a fourth-place run in Austin. Leclerc also impressed in his last appearance in Mexico, claiming the pole and recording the fastest lap on his way to a fourth-place finish, and is worthy of a value wager as a +185 bet to reach the podium for the second time this season.
