Online Connecticut Sports Betting Delayed Until After Oct. 7

The launch of online Connecticut sports betting will not arrive on Oct. 7 after all.

While the delay isn’t expected to be lengthy, it’s still disappointing news for Connecticut sports bettors. Keep reading for full details on the delay of Connecticut online sports betting.

CT Online Wagering Was Expected to Arrive on Oct. 7

Sports betting will not get underway in the Nutmeg State on Oct. 7 due to a memorandum of understanding from the federal government. This has caused a delay in the state’s regulatory approval process, although this delay is not expected to last long.

As per several reports, Connecticut will not be launching online sports betting by its Oct. 7 goal. The Communications Director from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection told me "no date has been set, but we do not anticipate it to be a lengthy delay."

The state is working closely with online sportsbooks to ensure platforms are following official rules and regulations, and hopefully the delay will only last a few days.

In-Person Connecticut Sports Betting Available at Retail Locations

Fortunately, in-person sports betting is still available in Connecticut, as FanDuel and DraftKings opened retail sportsbook locations on Sept. 30.

FanDuel opened their temporary retail sportsbook location at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont placed the first official wager, a $50 bet on the Connecticut Sun to win their playoff game against the Chicago Sky on Friday, Oct. 1.

This initial wager from Gov. Lamont was successful in some sense, as the Sun came out on top by a score of 79-68. However, due a potential conflict of interest, some problems arose from this particular wager.

The Mohegan Sun casino has suspended wagering on the WNBA after questions were raised over a potential conflict in taking bets on the Connecticut Sun, a team also owned by the Mohegan Tribe.

The Mohegan Tribe own both the Connecticut Sun WNBA team and the Mohegan Sun casino, which had some state officials questioning the legitimacy of wagering on WNBA games at this casino.

This is expected to be a temporary suspension, although exact details on this are few and far between at the moment.

The DraftKings Sportsbook also opened their retail sportsbook location at the Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard, CT on Sept. 30. Connecticut Sun fans looking to wager on the home team can visit this location to bet on their favorite local pro club while they wait for online sports betting to arrive in the near future.

Three Online Sportsbooks Entering the CT Sports Betting Market

Despite these delays, three premier online sportsbooks are still expected to launch in Connecticut:

• FanDuel Sportsbook (in-person retail betting currently available)
• DraftKings Sportsbook (in-person retail betting currently available)
• SugarHouse Sportsbook (Rush Street Interactive in partnership with the Connecticut State Lottery)

Sports bettors in the Nutmeg State should still be ready to register with these betting sites when online wagering finally gets underway. Again, the exact go-live date is yet to be determined, although the delay isn’t expected to be extensive.
