- The top four seeds at the US Open are the overwhelming favorites to win their quarters
- No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who is aiming to make history in New York, is miles ahead of everyone else
- We break down each quarter, and pick a best bet and a good long shot.
No Roger Federer.
No Rafael Nadal.
And world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is trying to make history on two fronts. The 34-year-old is looking to complete the Calendar Grand Slam, something that hasn’t been done on the men’s side for more than 50 years.
And, with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all tied with 20 career Grand Slam titles, winning the 2021 US Open would be the tiebreaker for Djokovic.

Kei Nishikori (JPN) | +3500 |

Anyone but Djokovic? Anyone?
The world No. 1 and tournament favorite took a nice long break to get over his Olympics loss, heal up and recharge after a jam-packed summer.
He has looked in fine form so far in practice. And no one in his potential first three rounds looks fit to trouble him.
Aslan Karatsev, who notoriously beat Djokovic in the final of his own tournament in Belgrade, on clay, has calmed down significantly after an unreal breakout in the first half of the year. Also – this is his debut.
In 4 weeks Aslan Karatsev will be playing US Open main draw for the first time in his life. Perspective. https://t.co/QQ0FvF92kO

So that leaves No. 6 seed Matteo Berrettini and the underrated Hubert Hurkacz as potential threats.
The problem is, Djokovic would only face one of them in the quarters. The locomotive will be rolling.
Best Bet: Djokovic (-700)
Long Shot: Hurkacz (+1200)
US Open Men’s Second Quarter Odds
Player | Odds |
---|---|
[4] Alexander Zverev (GER) | -110 |
[13] Jannik Sinner (ITA) | +380 |
[7] Denis Shapovalov (CAN) | +500 |
[9] Pablo Carreño Busta (ESP) | +800 |
Sebastian Korda (USA) | +1800 |
[25] Karen Khachanov (RUS) | +2000 |
[17] Gaël Monfils (FRA) | +2000 |
[31] Alexander Bublik (KAZ) | +2800 |
Lorenzo Musetti (ITA) | +2800 |
[22] Reilly Opelka | +4000 |
Zverev the Favorite, but Could be Tested
Alexander Zverev has plenty of off-court concerns at the moment, which you presume his lawyers are taking care of but still are … out there.

And he is in what’s arguably the most competitive quarter of the draw.
Zverev’s first test could be No. 31 seed Alexander Bublik who, on a given day, can play lights out.
Denis Shapovalov has had good success in New York. But he’s not playing all that well coming in.
Zverev could get Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.
Young guns Shapovalov, Korda and Opelka and the slightly older Khachanov and Carreño Busta all will be battling for one quarterfinal spot in an exceedingly tough section.
Best Bet: Zverev (-110)
Long Shot: Khachanov (+2000)
US Open Men’s Third Quarter Odds
Player | Odds |
---|---|
[3] Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) | +110 |
[5] Andrey Rublev (RUS) | +350 |
[12] Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) | +1400 |
[18] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) | +1400 |
[23] Ugo Humbert (FRA) | +1800 |
Frances Tiafoe (USA) | +2200 |
Nick Kyrgios (AUS) | +2200 |
[26] Cameron Norrie (GBR) | +2500 |
Andy Murray (GBR) | +2800 |
Carlos Alcarez (ESP) | +5000 |
Tsitsipas the Class of the Third Quarter
No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas is rather likely to get to the final four out of this quarter.
And that’s so even if he drew former champion Andy Murray in the first round. Once Murray’s friend, the best-of-five format is now his foe.

Rublev vs. Tiafoe could be a fascinating third-round clash. And Auger-Aliassime has a pretty good draw to the fourth round – if he can get his serving act together.
Ugo Humbert could be Tsitsipas’ fourth-round match. And he is NOT a fan of playing the French lefty.
Best Bet: Rublev (+350)
Long Shot: Auger-Aliassime (+1400)
US Open Men’s Fourth Quarter Odds
Player | Odds |
---|---|
[2] Daniil Medvedev (RUS) | -165 |
[8] Casper Ruud (NOR) | +700 |
[19] John Isner (USA) | +1200 |
[15] Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) | +1400 |
[11] Diego Schwartzman (ARG) | +1400 |
[30] Marin Cilic (CRO) | +1600 |
[24] Dan Evans (GBR) | +1600 |
Kevin Anderson (RSA) | +2200 |
Richard Gasquet (FRA) | +15000 |
Medvedev Should Rule Fourth Quarter
Medvedev is one of the rare players in the draw to have actually reached a US Open final.

The better seeds – Casper Ruud and Diego Schwartzman – are far superior on clay.
No. 19 seed John Isner could make a run. But his body has been barking at him already. And the best-of-five set format will only exacerbate the wear and tear on the 36-year-old’s 6-11 frame. Still, he will give it a major go.
Best Bet: Medvedev (-165)
Long Shot: Isner (+1200)
