John Riel Casimero vs Guillermo Rigondeaux transpires at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The WBO world bantamweight championship is on the line with Casimero and Rigondeaux in the champion and challenger roles, respectively.
We have two bantamweight title fights on the same card actually and these boxing bouts are broadcast on Showtime.

This bout was initially supposed to feature Nonito Donaire testing skills against John Riel Casimero.
The respective teams could seemingly not come to an agreement, Donaire has withdrawn, and Rigondeaux has stepped up.

John Riel Casimero: WBO Kingpin
John Riel Casimero has worn that WBO bantamweight crown since April 20th, 2019 and has been smoking the competition for the last couple of years.
He has successfully defended his WBO hardware before and aims to fill out the proverbial tally chart of title defenses even further this weekend.
Casimero is riding a six-fight win streak heading into this bout with all six fights resulting in a stoppage victory.
Less than 2 Weeks to go!

There has not been an undisputed bantamweight champion since 1973 and that was during the two-belt era.
A win here could jettison Casimero towards opportunities to eventually become undisputed bantamweight king during the four-belt era and to carve out his place in history.
Guillermo Rigondeaux Pursues WBO Gold Again
Guillermo Rigondeaux has felt a level of inspiration as of late watching the Olympics.
The former two-time gold medalist surveying Olympic Boxing has even further galvanized the already rock-solid resolve he has.
Rigondeaux captured the WBA world bantamweight championship in his last outing in February 2020.
He returns to the fold for his first fight since the global pandemic really took hold and he aims to collect additional gold.

These 118 pounders match up nicely stylistically with Rigondeaux having a near four-inch reach advantage while Casimero clearly has the edge in terms of finishing ability/ overall stoppage rate.
Rigondeaux has formerly held this WBO gold and captured it by besting the aforementioned Donaire. Can he reclaim the gold or will Casimero remain?
John Riel Casimero vs Guillermo Rigondeaux Tale of the Tape
30-4 | Record | 20-1 |
21 | Knockouts | 13 |
5’4 | Height | 5’7 |
64″ | Reach | 67.5″ |
Orthodox | Stance | Southpaw |
Ultimately, I think the champion retains his gold and I think there’s value in pursuing a prop bet on Casimero winning via TKO or KO.
Pick: John Riel Casimero (-140)
Gary Antonio Russell vs Emmanuel Rodriguez Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Gary Antonio Russell | -250 |
Emmanuel Rodriguez | +175 |
Odds at Bet365
Gary Antonio Russell and Emmanuel Rodriguez collide for the interim WBA world bantamweight championship.
A classic matchup between a proven former titleholder and a surging prospect looking for some statement victories.
Russell vs Rodriguez in the Co-Main Event
Emmanuel Rodriguez is a former IBF champion and looks to collect even more belts in this fighting foray.
On paper, Rodriguez lost his last outing but the decision was so egregiously bad that the WBC tried to order an immediate rematch versus Reymart Gaballo.
Rodriguez instead opted for a stiffer test and takes on an undefeated prospect in this pugilistic pursuit.
Russell has appeared to be a slick fighter so far but this fight will be a bit of a litmus test for where he’s at in his progression.

After back-to-back defeats to elites, the last victory for Rodriguez transpired in October 2018.
A successful IBF bantamweight world title defense against the well-regarded Jason Moloney.

In summation, I think Gary Antonio Russell notches a victory over the tough vet and improves his pro boxing record to 19-0.
Pick: Gary Antonio Russell (-250)
