Chase Elliott Big Favorite to Win at Watkins Glen
NASCAR drivers run on the 3,4-mile Grand Prix Circuit when the flag drops for the Sunday afternoon race beginning around 3:00 PM EST. Chase Elliott is the best driver on road courses over the past three seasons and arguably may be one of the most proficient in decades. Last year’s race was not held due to COVID, but the Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver has won the last two times on this track (2018 and 2019).
At Watkins Glen, Elliott has gone two for two, as we mentioned. That is an average finish of 1.00, which includes a whopping 73.7% of laps lead. That laps lead is just incredible.
He has the ability to do well and has a good chance to win on Sunday. Elliott’s top-three numbers are even at a -250.

The interesting thing is that Elliott and Kyle Larson have shown much strength on road courses along with Kyle Busch and even Martin Truex Jr. This is going to be some race.
Also, consider that Elliott has an average finish of 6.4 on all road courses since 2018 and that includes a leading seven victories and a phenomenal driver rating of 126.1.

2020 | Canceled due to COVID | Canceled due to COVID | Canceled due to COVID |

2018 | Chase Elliott — Hendrick Motorsports Racing | Denny Hamlin— Joe Gibbs Racing | Chase Elliott — Hendrick Motorsports Racing |
2017 | Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing | Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing | Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing |
2016 | Denny Hamlin — Joe Gibbs Racing | Carl Edwards — Joe Gibbs Racing | Brad Keselowski — Team Penske |
Again, the good news is that NASCAR is back after a three-week break.
Can Martin Truex Jr. Break The Hendricks?
Sports bettors have some history to draw on as this race is just 90 laps. Truex Jr. could take another turn in the NASCAR Cup Series odds, and the No. 19 has won the race before — in 2017. He has finished in second the last two times at “The Glen”. In 2019, he nearly found a way to get past Chase Elliott before the No. 9 pulled away.
It’ll be all Team Penske up front when the green flag drops for the Go Bowling at The Glen, led by Brad Keselowski.

Martin Truex Jr. starts 9th on Sunday with Brad Keselowski on the pole. The good news for Truex Jr. is that Chase Elliott is behind him in 11th. Expect the Joe Gibbs Racing driver to move up fast on Sunday.
Can Kyle Busch Bounce Back?
The driver of the No. 18 has been rather good at being in a position to win at Watkins Glen in his last two races there. He has one top-ten finish, and a solid 17.33% of the laps led. If there is any car that can surpass Chase Elliott, it may be the Kyle Busch car.
Kyle Busch is lucky the pace car driver didn't brake check him like I think he did to William Byron at Watkins Glen in 2019! lol

Yes, Kyle Busch was not fined for hitting the pace car. There are many arguments on this subject, but Busch nonetheless expects to challenge for a win on Sunday at Watkins Glen. His car possesses the speed and he starts in 20th. Expect him to surge up the field quickly.
While some will debate that there are better candidates out there to do well, there is a reason why drivers like Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson could do well here. Larson has consecutive top-ten finishes and likely expects number three this week. The setup favors Hendrick Motorsports by a whisker. Finally, Kevin Harvick could be a long shot to finish fifth or better.
The Picks: Denny Hamlin to finish Top 5 (+105);Â Chase Elliott to win (+200); Kyle Larson to finish Top Three (+125)
Top Pick: Kyle Busch to finish Top Three (+210)
Longshot: Kevin Harvick to finish Top Five (+450)
