The Olympic Women’s Volleyball competition is off to the quarter-finals with just eight teams left vying for the gold medal. China, who came into the event as strong +175 favorites to earn the gold, didn’t even make it out of the pool stage as they dropped three of five contests to slump to fifth in their group. That sets the stage for USA to nab the top spot on the podium as they were +225 before the tournament, and are +150 favorites over Brazil currently.
There are four matchups in the quarter-finals that will begin Tuesday night (in North America), and continue into the early morning hours of Wednesday. Two of the matchups appear, on paper, to be one-sided, while there should be two more evenly matched battles.
Read on to see the matchup odds and best bets to make for Tuesday’s jam-packed action in Women’s Olympic Volleyball.

Turkey and South Korea Both Surprised
It was hardly a given that either Turkey or South Korea would even make it to the quarter-finals, let alone both of them. They both were able to achieve the feat by winning three of five matches. Pre-event, Turkey had +3000 odds to win gold and Korea had bloated +20000 odds to defy expectations to go on a storybook run.

Though the Koreans have surprised many, they still are in tough to topple a Turkey squad that has won two straight and played in the tougher pool.
Pick: Turkey (-1050)
United States Should Easily Handle Dominican Republic
On paper, this matchup should be pretty easily one-sided in favor of the States, who won four of their matches while the Dominican Republic snagged just two. Like South Korea, it’s a pretty big surprise that they made it through, although the bottom half of Pool A was abysmal, allowing them to sneak in.

USA is the top team in the world rankings, is the favorite to win gold, and the DR is still +8000 longshots for a reason. The United States could win in straight sets for the third time this Olympics.
Pick: United States (-1800)
Serbia Could Upset Italy
Two very evenly matched squads are Italy, which is slightly favored over Serbia in their match. They had the third and fourth shortest odds before the matches and are still locked in the same position to win gold (Italy is +400 and Serbia is +600). They’re also 7-8 in the world rankings.
In the group stage, Serbia actually won four times compared to Italy’s three. Each one of those victories were in straight sets, while Italy lost their last two games. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Serbians won silver, and with odds so close, they’re worth the extra juice.
Pick: Serbia (+110)
Brazil’s Odds Continue to Shorten
The only unbeaten team through five matches was Brazil, who lost only three sets in dominant fashion. In doing so, they went from having the fifth shortest odds to win gold pre-tournament to now second (+230).
Heading into their quarter-final tilt with ROC, Brazil was favored, but not by the -400 number they’re now sitting at. That number continues to rise with the public backing them.

ROC finished fourth in Pool B, although it was a three-way tie for second so it’s not as if their 3-2 record was awful. They have a punchers chance against Brazil, but the second ranked team in the world is just too strong.
Pick: Brazil (-400)
