Odds as of June 3 at DraftKings

Massimiliano Allegri has returned to take charge of Juventus after winning five successive league titles between 2014-19.

Former superstar player Andrea Pirlo was fired from the managerial post after the team finished fourth.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has departed from Inter Milan after his championship success. Now, former Lazio chief Simone Inzaghi has been appointed as his successor.

The oddsmakers at DraftKings make Juventus favorites to win Serie A in 2021/22 at +115. Then come Inter at +225.

It is clear that they do not expect a major challenge from any other outfit. So last season’s second-placed side, AC Milan is therefore rated as third-choice but at a wide price of +1100.

Furthermore, Atalanta, which was third last season, is the fourth favorite for the next campaign at +1300. Napoli – fifth last time around – is also priced at +1300.

Juve Plots Return to Top

Juventus is certainly determined to return to the pinnacle of the Italian game.

It has turned as a result to Allegri who also led the side to two Champions League finals during his spell in command between 2014 and 2019.

Pirlo was certainly a surprise choice to take on the manager’s job when he was appointed last September.

The former Italian international midfielder won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.

But his failure to retain the title cost him his job.

One rogue factor here in addition is the possibility that Juventus could be expelled from Serie A. This is because of their involvement in the failed European Super League project.

Along with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Juventus has yet to officially announce its official withdrawal from the breakaway project.

The future of Juve’s veteran superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is uncertain.

Inter, meanwhile, is among the nine clubs which have officially pulled out.

It is, however, expected that Juventus will not face expulsion. So the club is pressing ahead with plans for next season.

The future of Juve’s veteran superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is, meanwhile,  uncertain with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United among those who would like to lure him from Turin.

Ronaldo was Serie A’s top scorer last season with 29 goals.

Allegri, moreover, is said to be interested in bringing back to Juventus the French international midfielder Paul Pogba – currently at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Allegri is also keen to hold on to the Argentine international midfielder Paulo Dybala who won four Italian titles under the coach’s command.

Limited Transfer Budgets

After the financial problems caused by the COVID-19 crisis, Allegri will certainly  not have a huge amount to spend.

Instead, the club hopes that his renowned calm and simple approach will restore a sense of authority to the team.

Inter also has financial problems. And it was a demand from the owners that the squad should be trimmed which subsequently prompted coach Conte to depart after his title success.

New coach Inzaghi will consequently be expected to work within financial constraints. This could aid Juve’s hopes of regaining the crown.

It suggests it will be difficult for Inzaghi to outwit the experienced and successful Allegri.

Romelu Lukaku has pledged to remain at Inter.

However, Inter’s owners hope that Inzaghi’s record of winning three trophies in five years at Lazio can bring him further success in his new post.

Inzaghi has been boosted by the fact that last season’s second-leading goalscorer Romelu Lukaku has pledged to remain at Inter after claiming 25 Serie A strikes in 2020-21.

AC Milan’s major transfer target appears to be Chelsea veteran Olivier Giroud. which underlines the fact it simply does not have the capability to challenge Juventus or Inter.

Although second last season, AC Milan was 12 points behind champions Inter.

Atalanta continues to punch above its weight. But it will not challenge for the title, either, after finishing 13 points behind Inter.

So, in conclusion, it is likely that the return of Allegri will also mean the return of the title to Juventus next May.

Pick: Juventus +115
