Jordan Spieth’s Odds to Win 2021 Masters Shorten to +950 After Winning Valero Texas Open

- It was Spieth’s first PGA Tour victory since his triumph in the 2017 Open Championship

Jordan Spieth has literally played himself into the championship conversation on the eve of the 2021 Masters. With his win Sunday in the Valero Texas Open, Spieth ended a nearly four-year long title drought.
Bookmakers took notice. The betting line on Spieth shortened to +950 from +1300 in the 2021 Masters odds. Spieth previously won the Masters in 2015.
The world’s best golfers will tee it up at Augusta National in the opening round of the Masters on Thursday, April 8th. The broadcast of the first round of the tournament is being carried by ESPN from 3-7pm ET.

Spieth Locates His Game
With his win in Texas, Spieth captured his first event since a victory in the 2017 Open Championship. With another of golf’s majors on the horizon, he appears to be finding his game at the appropriate time.
Spieth carded a 67 or better in three of the four rounds at the Texas Open. His closing-round 66 on Sunday earned him a two-stroke victory over Charley Hoffman.

The victory was his 12th since joining the PGA Tour. Three of those triumphs have come in majors – the 2015 Masters, 2015 US Open and 2017 Open Championship.
Spieth has endured dreadful struggles over the past two years. He posted a career-worst tie for 46th at the 2020 Masters. Spieth ended up missing the cut at four of his first seven 2021 events. His best finish over that span was a tie for 38th.
Texas-Masters Two Step
When Spieth won his previous Masters title in 2015, he came into the tournament off a runner-up finish at the Texas Open. So there is a personal history of him carrying over a strong performance in Texas into success at Augusta.
In the history of the event, only one golfer has managed to turn the Texas Open-Masters double in the same year. And he did it twice.

Arnold Palmer won both tournaments in 1960 and did so again in 1962.
In 1950, Jimmy Demaret won the Masters after finishing as runner up in the Texas Open. One year earlier, Sam Snead was also runner-up in the Texas Open and Masters champion.
Should You Roll With Spieth?
Brendon Todd, in the 2019 Bermuda Open and Mayakoba Golf Classic, was the last player to win successive PGA Tour events. There’s been 53 tournaments played since without another back-to-back winner.
That being said, Spieth’s game has entered a different stratosphere since around the time the NFL was contesting the Super Bowl.

Including his Texas Open win, Spieth has posted five top-five finishes and two other top-15 showings since February.
The odds of him winning two tournaments in a row are long, but placing a small wager on the hot hand is never a bad idea.
