2021 WGC Dell Technologies Match Play Bracket, Odds and Picks

• The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play from Austin, TX tees off Wednesday, March 24th

The second World Golf Championships event on the calendar sees 64 of the best players in golf teeing it up for the prestigious WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play title. Almost all of the big names in golf who qualified are competing, with the exceptions being Tiger Woods, Gary Woodland, Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose and Adam Scott.

The first three days will consist of 16 groups of four golfers each playing everyone in their group once in a round robin format,  with winners advancing to the Sweet 16. The March Madness continues after that, with single elimination knockout matches all the way to the final, where a champion is crowned.

This tournament was not contested last year due to the COVID-19 shutdown, meaning 2019 champion Kevin Kisner returns to defend his crown.

Paul Casey Playing Fantastic Golf

2021 has been a very kind year for Paul Casey, as he’s played six events on the PGA and European Tours – with his worst finish being a tie for twelfth. Included in that is a victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, and in his most recent event, he tied for fifth at the Players Championship.

He’s also been strong in virtually all aspects of his game, as he’s been outstanding in several strokes gained categories on the PGA Tour of late.

Casey has also managed to get out of his group in two of the last three years at this event, in which he went undefeated in those matches, eventually resulting in T-9 finishes. He’s no stranger to success in this format either, taking the 2006 HSBC World Match Play Championship and was runner-up in this event in both 2009 and 2010, albeit at a different track.

Casey will be up against Webb Simpson, Mackenzie Hughes and Talor Gooch in his group, making his +2500 odds to win very enticing.

1. Jason Day (+5000): Jason Day loves this format, as he’s won it twice in 2014 at a different venue then won two years later at this course. Has found his game after a recent slump with four straight top-35’s, including a T-7 at Pebble Beach. Faces Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Andy Sullivan.
2. Kevin Kisner (+6600): Hard to argue with Kevin Kisner’s elite track record around this course, as he won in 2019 and was runner-up in 2018. Has a runner-up on the campaign at the RSM Classic. Hasn’t been playing stellar golf of late and he’s in a group with Justin Thomas, Louis Oosthuizen and Matt Kuchar so it won’t be easy for him but he returns to friendly confines.
3. Shane Lowry (+10000): What’s with the disrespect shown for reigning Open Champion Shane Lowry? Super high odds for a golfer who just finished eighth at the Players Championship and found himself right in the thick of things on the back nine Saturday at the Honda Classic before tailing off. Will do battle with Jon Rahm, Sebastian Munoz and Ryan Palmer.
