Just one week after taking the 54-hole lead over Bryson DeChambeau at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Lee Westwood has done it again at The Players Championship. This time the 47-year-old has a two stroke edge over the ‘Mad Scientist’ in his bid to become the second oldest (Fred Funk) winner of this prestigious event.
Despite finishing runner-up at Bay Hill last week to DeChambeau, Westwood was still a +9500 long shot to earn the biggest win of his storied career this week, while Bryson had the second shortest odds to win outright.
There is plenty of firepower on the leaderboard like Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Paul Casey should the top two challengers stumble on Sunday.
Read on to see the updated odds and the best bets for Sunday’s final round.

Lee Westwood The 54-Hole Leader Again
Lee Westwood has a shot at redemption after falling just short of Bryson DeChambeau at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. In his PGA Tour career, he’s just one-for-six in converting 54-hole leads into victories. One of those instances where he didn’t get it done was at this very tournament in 2010, where a final round 74 dropped him into a tie for fourth.
Lee Westwood is the 16th player since 2010 to hold the 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour in back-to-back weeks.
13 of the previous 15 players won at least one of those tournaments. Lone exceptions: Daniel Summerhays in 2013 and Jordan Spieth this season.

Westwood is first in greens in regulation for the week, like he was at the API. He’s also second in scrambling and sixth in strokes gained putting, and that’s with him missing several makeable birdie attempts on the front nine Saturday.
He’s won 25 times in Europe, but just twice in the States, in 1998 and 2010. The concerning statistic is Westwood off the tee, as he ranks T-96th in driving accuracy through three days. That could rear its ugly head when the pressure mounts Sunday.
Lee Westwood and Bryson DeChambeau will play in Sunday’s final group for the second straight week.
The only other time this has happened in consecutive stroke-play events was Adam Scott and Vijay Singh (2006 TOUR Championship & 2007 Sentry TOC).

DeChambeau is looking to become the first player in 20 years to win The Players after winning the previous week since Tiger Woods in 2001.
This would by far represent the greatest win of Westwood’s painful career that’s resulted in countless runner-ups in big tournaments. It’s hard to envision him holding off DeChambeau, who is playing lights out golf lately and has more pedigree, showing a far better knack for closing out events.

Best Live Value Picks for the Players Championship
- Justin Thomas (+500): We were high on Thomas as the week began with him at +2000 odds to win outright, so why change now? He’ll begin the final day three back after shooting a tournament best 8-under, 64 on moving day. T-2nd in putts per green in regulation through three rounds and he’s tied for first in birdies for the tournament. Five of his 13 tour victories have seen him shoot 66 or better in the final round.
- Jon Rahm (+850): The 54-hole leader at this championship in 2019, Jon Rahm finds himself with another chance, starting four back. Has hit at least 14 greens in all three rounds. First in strokes gained ball striking in the last four Players Championships. Not afraid to go low Sunday, as he won his last tour event by shooting a closing 64 at the BMW Championship.
